Sorry I keep asking opinions on PS1 games; but I have many at my disposal and am wondering which ones are worth it because I missed out on a bunch of GREAT games.

What are the best PS1 RPGs?? You don't have to tell me about Final Fantasy 7-9 because I already know about their greatness!

Thanks for the help. I know there are many out there who also loved the PS1.

Grandia tops the list, followed by anything brought over by Working Designs (except that piece of crap Vanguard Bandits).

Second tier of FFIX, FFT, Vandal-Hearts, Legend of Dragoon, and so forth...

The PS1 was really Square's Golden Age. With only a few exceptions just about everything they released was at the very least good. In fact the only RPG they made for the PS1 that I thought was bad was SaGa Frontier 2.

As far as others that haven't been mentioned, Dragon Warrior VII is okay. Too long for its own good, but still has its' moments. Azure Dreams was fantastic and is a personal favorite of mine. It combined city buiiding with monster raising dating sims and dungeon crawling. It's not for eveyrone, but if you can get into it, it's very addicting.

I've researched a bunch of these and legend of Dragoon sounds right up my ally because it is said to be a generic RPG. Some people would be upset by that but since I haven't played a million RPG's, this formula is still great to me. I think I'll get this one.

Great suggestions from everyone; thanks; feel free to keep listing them off because i never heard of a lot of these and they are all worth looking into.

Final fantasy 7 !!!!!!!!!!! no, not really, Try the Wild Arms series, I loved Wild Arms and Wild Arms alter code F, some people don't like them because they are to "generic" but I love the old school RPG style, great games in my opinion, oh yeah, and Grandia was great too and Grandia 3, I didn't care too much for valkryie, I bought it for psp, and tried soooo hard to get into it, but I just couldn't, maybe it was the story, anyway try wild arms it's cool.

The PS1 was the king of RPGs, so you're missing a lot. Here are a few that spring quickly to mind:

Any Final Fantasy (VII, VIII, IX, Tactics, Anthology, Chronicles, Origins)
Star Ocean: The 2nd Story
Vagrant Story
Chrono Cross
Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete
Lunar 2: Eternal Blue
Suikoden
Suikoden II
Wild ARMs
Legend of Legaia
Legend of Dragoon
Legend of Mana
Alundra (although it doesn't really qualify as a RPG, it's still one of the best games ever, IMO)
Parasite Eve (also not really a RPG, although Square called it one, and it's great fun)
Saga Frontier
Saga Frontier 2
Breath of Fire IV
Grandia
Thousand Arms
Persona
Persona 2
Threads of Fate
Valkyrie Profile

And there are several strat/RPGs like FFT that were good, too- Vandal Hearts II, Front Mission 3, and Tactics Ogre, for example.

You guys are awesome. So far Legend of Dragoon is awsome! I am only in the Jail where you find Shana but I really like the battle system and I think the story is going to be good. Grandia is OK, so far I only just found the treasures in the town but haven't battled yet. I haven;t had the time to delve too deeply into the games yet. I am looking for Vagrant story because I have played before and I think I'll like that one.

Thanks for all the great advice. Let me know if you think of any more.

That's pretty much complete list.

Might want to add Breath of Fire III and Dragon Quest VII to that list.

and one of the lesser known gem like Guardian Crusade and Koudelka.

I think RPGsreally bloomed during the PS1 era. I even sometimes strongly feel that the PS1 RPGs were waaaaaay better and more fun than the RPGs of last-gen. Justthe PS1 Final Fantasy games, the first two Suikoden games, and Chrono Cross aloneblows away (I think) all the RPGs of the PS2/GC/XBOX era.

And don't forget Vagrant Story and Chrono Cross. I think they were better than Final Fantasy VII and VIII.

PS2 had many quality RPGs though.

Not mind blowing good, but high quality RPGs and had plenty of them.

Shadow Hearts series, Suikoden series, Persona 3, etc etc etc.

Exept Legend of Dragoon (IMO one of the worst PS1-RPGs) exactly my opinion.Maybe add something like Chrono Cross and Persona 2.

Final Fantasy Tactics came out around 1998 or something.

Not too long after Final Fantasy VII.

If you want to try Final Fantasy Tactics, I suggest you wait for the PSP version which will come out in less than two weeks. The script will be more fleshed out (if will make sense now) and more characters such as Balthier from FFXII, and more classes.

Also, the anime cut-scenes, IMO, is worth buying it. It looks awesome.

But the bad thing is, which I think is very deplorable on Square's part, is the price of this thing. Even Jeanne D`Arc was reasonably priced but FFTactics is just too expensive for a port.

Also I heard there are some technical problems.

Loading time, slow downs, etc.

Personally, I hope I see some PSP to PSN ports. That would be great.
