PS2 forever!

Hi everyone, just thought I would enter the "new" forum with some pizazz.

Well here it is, the place to be! PS2 is rocking hard these days, mine takes up about 4-5 hours of my day everyday. New games are coming out all the time, and all the old classics are available for great prices!

In a positive light, it is fitting that PS2 has a new forum called Legacy, becauxe it is a rare console that is not only the best that there is available now, but it is also leaving a legacy - actively - as it continues to grow!

So here's to Gamespot for helping to further nourish a community that is getting bigger everyday. PS2ers, welcome home!

Yeah man I feel ya. PS2 was such a powerhouse of a console. I actually had crappy taste in games when PS2 was in its prime so I missed out on a bunch of quality titles. I started going back and picking up most, if not all, of the best titles the PS2 has to offer.

And speaking of all the deals. Wow, just wow. I love their trilogy packs. I bought the DMC trilogy and Hitman trilogy. Plus most of their games are at great prices, esspecially if you can find them used.

I'm still playing my PS2. I have a bunch of games I'd like to beat before I upgrade to a next gen. console.

Haha well said! No PS2 is far from rare, you are correct. I was just trying to point out that it is an odd species that is not only king of the past so to speak, already categorized as a last gen legend, but it's library is still being expanded upon with no end in the immediate future.

Also, I have had the pleasure of playing on XBOX at my buddies place for many happy hours, also I spent a lot of time during a memorable holiday poking around the Gamecube collection on the hotel TV, both experiences were very enjoyable. I just have an affinity towards the PS2 because it's the one out of the 3 that I chose to bring home!

As far as true LEGACY consoles, I also owned an SNES, a Sega Genesis with the CD, and a Coleco Gemini way back in the day.

True. I prefer the Xbox. But I also believe that the XBox should also have its own forum. There were several of us still active there...

That's what makes the PS2 so unique at this time. It is still alive and kicking. And its going to get a new burst of life at the end of February when it drops to $99.00.

I haven't moved on to the next gen yet because there are still so many great PS2 (and Gamecube) games that I haven't gotten around to playing yet. And there are some new PS2 games coming out that I'm planning on buying. Things like getting rid of the PS2 forums and Sony's removal of backward capability sometimes makes me feel like the next gen/current gen/whatever they are called now people are trying to force me to move on. I will eventually get around to it, I just wish they would stop rushing me.:)

It's not an honor for the Xbox board to be in the Legacy forum. It deserves its own board...

And, sorry to say, the PlayStation 2 won't be getting new releases for the next couple of years. I doubt there will be a steady stream of new releases past June or July...

I heard somewhere that 2007 was the last year for full production support, but I don't know the reputation of the source.

You make an excellent point.. the Xbox is only discontinued as far as hardware and hard media goes.. it lives on through bw compatability with 360 and of course a loyal fanbase as well. Interesting.. that puts a new spin on what "legacy" means in my mind. Should PS1 have had it's own forums right up until now because Square has never stopped pressing games for it?

Thanks for the update about production for the PS2 as well, we had all kinds of rumours about that back on the old forum. Probably just a case of supply and demand. It would seem odd to stop making games for it and then release a new version of the console though.

Okay, so my prediction was wrong. However, that doesn't show how many or how often games will come out. Support for the PS2 will dwindle.

I love how World Champion Cards is coming out on a date that only comes once every four years.. they can deny it ever happened. Hehe, it will probably be great.

PS2 should still have its own forum because it is still widely popular, has sold 130 million units, and it is still selling, has some of the best games library for its generation, has a giant game library, and out-sold its competitors by a large margin. I still play my PS2 from time to time and it still quite fun. FPS_Gamer123

Hey guys, glad to see you are all here and ready to rock, but I think we should respect the moderaters and the site by directing any "we want our forum back" posts to the Site Enhancements and Feedback Forum. You can find it back out in the root directory. There are already a couple of posts there on the subject, but consider this: it could be that gamespot is completely aware that the PS2 has a collosal fanbase that is going to be a leviathan to deal with as far as the transition goes when it does indeed go to sleep. Perhaps (and this is just my optimism speaking) they are starting the transition now, as it seems more realistic then dropping the axe when the console also discontinues.

Seems less painful in a way.

Either way, we should respect the site and post "We want the PS2 forum back" threads to the Site Enhancements and Feedback Forum.

the real legacy console is the nes/snes . even n64 as they all brought somthing totally new to the table... wii will be next in line,, ps2 also gots its fair share of excellence as does segas systems and ps1 and xbox1 ,, basically every console i played on had its ups and downs and the legacy forum is rightfully suited for every console from xbox all the way to the atari 2600 and in a few we will add ps3 xbox360 and wii to this list of on going consoles plus all the old handhelds

gba is really a legacy handheld as is the gb line it self ds to .,. i dont know if any one noticed nintendo has been unstoppable in the hand held section and thats because they know the ins in outs of the whole market for example

they know battery life pricing and other stuff is important to make consumers want to buy a hand held ,, the only hand held that has came this close to actually make a good effort is psp but still it wasnt enough so i give the true legacy status to the whole line of gameboy

I have no interest in starting a system war. I'm not saying the Xbox is better than the PlayStation 2. I'm saying they are both good systems. I'm saying the PlayStation 2 is not better than the Xbox.

I'm not an Xbox fanboy.

I don't really mind that there are no releases, because I only seldom bought new games. I'm now buying good games for $4 or $5 a piece. Even if the Xbox was still coming out with new games, I wouldn't buy them.

And I'm only posting here because they got rid of the Xbox board. If I could still go to such a board, then I would not bother with trying to espouse the equality of the systems.

depends on what you want to play,

eventually I'm going to own an old xbox too to go along with my ps2. My gamestop has a stack of them for $60. Games are dirt cheap.....

lol, this is hilarious. think about it, man.... ps2 is a worldwide success that has seen more than 120 million units sold, easily dwarfing all the last gen console sales no., COMBINED. there are few truly outstanding games that were not exclusive to or eventually released on ps2, and out of those few that one could name there were mostly ( i'm not saying all )minor titles that didn't matter at all. oh, by the way, ps2 is the only last gen console that is still alive, in case you haven't noticed.

Just because something sells more units doesn't mean it is better than something else. Cost, availability, preference all factor into the sales figures. And there are several outstanding games that didn't go to PlayStation. Saying whether a system is alive or dead is a matter of opinion; I don't see any consoles as dead unless no one plays them any more. I don't see the SNES as dead. It is still widely played, despite there are not new games being released. I stand by my opinion that one cannot classify any of the systems as the best. You may like one better, but that does not make it the best.
