I'm new to the PS2 world. The PS2 is the third console that I have owned. I owned a SNES, an Xbox and now a PS2. My Xbox broke and I decided to get a PS2. The one problem I have is memory. On the Xbox it had a hard drive but the PS2 doesn't have one so I have a few questions:

1) Is is posible to get a hard drive to work on a PS2 slim? I know you can on the older bigger ones, but is their any way to do it on a slim. I was thinking maybe an external hard drive or a thumb drive might work.

2) Are there memory cards larger than 8mb. I've seen generic ones but I've heard they have all sorts of problems. Then on Ebay I saw some that were in 32mb and 64mb that look official with magic gate and everything

I've never heard of Sony releasing anything like this but they look official. I've aslo seen cards in 32mb made by Katana and Nyko. Are these any good.

Thank you in advance for any help.

Its best just to stay away from third party memory cards. That 8MB will actually hold quite alot. I have 2 Playstation 2 memory cards and that is all I have ever needed.

They do make a Playstation 2 hard drive, but that is only compatible on the fat models of the Playstation 2. You also can't save directly to the hard drive. You would need to save to your memory card and then move that data to your hard drive. When you would want to load the data you would need to copy it from the hard drive to the memory card and then start the game to load it.

The hard drive is really only used if you are going to play Resident Evil Outbreak/Resident Evil Outbreak File #2 or Final Fantasy XI. I got it to play Resident Evil Outbreak... Ashame that game isn't online anymore.

Thank you for the quik reply. Out of the 7 games that I own, I've already used over 10mb of storage. It is not because I have multiply flies, but instead because the games require a lot of storage. That is why I was hoping there is something out there that can store more than 8mb.

Here are the links to the 32mb cards

Nyko = http://www.amazon.com/Playstation-2-32Mb-Memory-Card/dp/B0013LYH18/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1230605627&sr=1-8

Katana = http://www.amazon.com/Playstation-2-Memory-Card-32MB/dp/B000WE3H5Y/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1230605627&sr=1-3

They look to be 4 8mb memory cards in one. You can switch between the memory cards by pressing a button. Has anyone used these? Would anybody recomend them?

nope

Does nope mean that you have never used either one of these memory cards before or does it mean they are no good.

third party memory cards are very problematic. Getting corrupt data is a frequent occurrence.
