Hello everyone,
Is it fair to pass by without playing this game or will I be missing a lot ?
I'd like to hear your experience with this game.

it's not for everyone. it depends on what you want from games. if you just care about 'fun', then this probably isn't for you; not that it isn't fun, but it's just a different type of engagement and i take pleasure in playing a game where fun isn't the only thing the developers care about.
i don't want to hype the game up too much, because you might be dissapointed, but it's a game that changes the rules of game design, but it does it in a way that feels totally natural that a lot of developers aren't doing. for example, there are no enemies, just these big rock giant things; they're like giant climbing frames...but that's about it. 16 gigantic creatures in a row, one after the other, like a constant boss fight.
the aesthetic is beautiful. if you've played ICO it's very similar. the game uses some high-end lighting techniques to achieve realistic atmospheres; it's really pushing the limits of the PS2's power.
don't really know what else to say, because i feel i'm just rambling. but you need to just play it; experience it but don't expect anything, just go through it and don't read too much about it or it might spoil the mystery.
but i do believe it is the most avant-garde, cutting edge game on the PS2. if you want to know where game design might go next, play it and afterwards read what the developers intended.
just play it!
Shadow of the Colossus.....
I went into this game having no idea what I was about to play. I had only heard it was a good game and had a lot of fans like it BUT its not mainstream. I was blown away. It is in my top 5 games of all time now.
Can't hurt to try out

ya I have never played it either, I keep picking it up to buy it but I always put it backdown and get something else
probably because the people in the store tell me how great it is which gives me pause and doubt
Quick Review
Graphics - Some of the best graphix on the PS2
Gameplay - You wander a vast beautiful empty world with your trusty steed (horse) in search of Giant Colossi (Bosses) find them, climb up their bodies and jab them in the head with a sword to BRING THEM DOWN! So it's basically a game where all you do is defeat giant bosses.
Music - One of the best VG scores ever, when your fighting the Colossi.
Overall - A great game but not for everyone, worth 20 dollars IMO.
The game is essentially a graphical demo with gameplay focused completely around boss battles.
Story progress is completely absent, until the very end of the game. And there is almost nothing extra to do in the world that you are placed in. The only sidequest the game has is killing special lizards and collecting their tales for a slight grip gauge increase. Your grip gauge also increases greatly, after every defeated colossus, by the way. All other bonus are unlocked via timed trials that won't show up until after you complete the game, and adds nothing extra to the story.
As for finding the collossus, it's not really a hard trick... you press a button that maked the MC lifts his sword, and then follow the beam of light that the sword emits.
*sigh* The guy made up his mind!! Stop giving input, stop bumping this. I hate seeing a thread about this piece of crap game.

I'll bump this thread just because you said that.
i think it's a great game, but it can be VERY boring. Most of the game it seems you're searching for each boss battle. When you finally find a boss to fight, you'll be impressed by how HUGE they are, but there's nothing else to do along the way. I think it is definately a MUST play, but you cannot expect it to be an exciting game most the time.Talldude80
it's supposed to be a lonely and prolonged search. it builds up to the fights. you would get just as bored if the boss fights were all in a row.
but i see your point. we should celebrate this type of design though, as it's rare.
ive actually started playing it again on my PS3.
the thing about SOTC (i find anyway) is that ull curse and swear and question the mains protagonists worth as a human being (despite him being a computer denerated image :P). the game is frustrating to play due to, frankly, some very sloppy and unresponsive controls and a sometimes dodgy framerate. aiming with the bow and arrow is a lesson in frustration (a wiimote would have been really handy for the second colossus) and sometimes the character seems to do nothing when ure rying to get him to move.
BUT (its a big but) the expeirence of doing it is simply amazing. its like taking down a hard boss in zelda..but even more gratifying due to their sheer size. the game will generate many memories in ure head and they will stay with you. an experience is the only way to describe it.
despite the problems i mentioned in the first paragraph, i would wholeheartedly recommend it.
SotC is currently my favorite PS2 game. It's artistically beautiful, has great music and atmosphere and has boss fights of epic proportions.
My only gripes with the game are that the game is pretty easy overall, and there isn't a lot of game-play. I mean, the boss fights are more exciting than fun.

It's a really good game, one of the best for the PS2. The graphics are some of the best last gen, on the PS2 no less, and actually manage to hold up decently against today's games. The fights are never anything short of epic either. The gameplay can basically be broken down into three phases:
1. Find a collosus. This can take awhile actually even though your sword acts as a compass. Once you find a collosus though you have to...
2. Figure out how to get onto the collosus. This is pretty much phase one of the collosus fight and you'll often spend awhile trying to figure out how the hell you get onto the thing. Once you do manage to get onto it then you have to...
3. Climb the collosus, find it's weakspot(s), and kill it. This also has a tendency to be a puzzle.
Whatever you do, don't use a guide when playing through this game. A lot of the fun comes from having to figure out what you're supposed to do to expose a collosi's weak spot.
If you've never played this or Ico you need to get both games. Not only are they fun but they're also very artistic games and are both unique experiences that really haven't ever been done before or since.
