Ok...I understand that there is google...But I'm getting no where with it at the moment...every search is turning up ps3 stuff which is completely irrelevant to what I want.

Ok here is the problem. I just found my ps2 slim after about 2-3 years of not playing. I was estactic to play this machine again and I knew that with it sitting for so long it may not function properly. First turn it on...really loud...I didn't use any vga outputs...I just turned it on to hear it.  I take it apart...not the metal plating, but the fan and give the fan a good cleaning and cleaned other areas where necessary.

Next I put it back together...put the component cables in (Which I tested with my ps3 to see if they work on my tv and they did) turned the system on, still very loud and no video.

So the output problem is within the ps2 slim itself....would I possibly have to go get a sautering tool to fix this issue?

Either way...if anyone else has experienced this problem and has found ways to get their system up and running again I would like feedback. The only thing that might be tricky for me is getting that metal protective plating off the motherboard...those screws feel like they have loctite. (Yeah I did once attempt to take the metal plating off but I gave up for fear of putting too much pressure on the motherboard trying to loosen a screw)

Maybe you have the component setting in the options set to RGB instead of YpbPr. Hook the ps2 up with composite and go into the ps2 options to check the component output setting.

Sigh...its my ps2...tried it on a different tv with my roommates ps2 using the AV cables and that system worked...switched to my system...nothing. I think having it go on a 3 year hiatus killed it. Especially since it is so loud compared to all the other consoles.

It probably is the main problem....however the way it runs makes me think that throwing 10$ down for a new SCART head wouldn't be worth it. I don't know why but I don't remember my ps2 sounding like a jet engine when turned on. Which I thought a good thorough cleaning could take care of that, but no.

PS2 slim shouldn't sound that much. My PS3 sounds more than my PS2 slim. The original PS2 however, that one is like a small vacuum-cleaner as I remember it. Back in those days I remember one of my friends telling me that when he turns on his PS2 downstairs you could hear it upstairs in the other end of the house. He lived in a house on about 210 square meters. Maybe a bit larger.

My advice: Get a new ps2 asap while you still can.
