PS2: Star Ocean Till the End of Time or Valkyrie Profile 2?

After playing Rogue Galaxy, Radiata Stories, and KH 1 & 2, I fell in love with real-time RPGs. Now I'm thinking of buying either SO TET or VP 2.

Which should I buy? Which is better? Longer (story only)? More sidequests? Ang lastly...which will make my money worth? Games here in my country are expensive.

SO: TET = $39 (greatest hits), VP 2 = $60

BTW...Which is closer to Rogue Galaxy (best real-time RPG IMO)? :)

VP2. Star Ocean TET isnt even worth owning, the first one on ps2(second chapter? or something like that) was way better. In my opinion though, your missing a couple of must have action rpg's though. Dark Cloud 2 and Phantasy Star Universe 1-2. But if you HAVE to choose between SO and VP2 then I say VP2 hands down.

The semi-side-scrolling feature of VP 2 (like in Radiata Stories) turned me off. I love to explore. Rotating the camera and able to step anywhere is a big factor to me.

no no no. the game is not worth it. its boring, cheesy characters, and its just plain BORING.
youll be bored from start to finish. i played about 20 minutes of the thing and shut it off and returned it right away.
ive heard people who've played about 40 hours, got on the second disc and couldnt even finish it.
save your money and buy Valkyrie Profile, ive heard many good things.

I think you judge a game too quick. I play at least 5 hours before judging a game. 20 mins is so fast. Nothing special would happen in the first 20 mins. of any game.

The main reason why I'll get SO TET is because it's similar to Rogue Galaxy, which is the best JRPG IMO. VP 2 is similar to Radiata Stories, semi-side-scrolling, you walk left-right/up-down. You can only step on the paths. I love to explore and enjoy the visuals, so able to rotate the camera and able to step anywhere is a big factor for me.

Summer star is right. SO TET is not worth owning especially when you have VP 2 as another choice. Playing VP2 for 20 minutes it dragged me in. The game is very unique and very fun. SO TET is blah. SO TET might be a longer game but VP2 is definitely worth your money

Star Ocean is a good game ... nice opinion its far from boring.

I've played SO3 and the original vp. So TOT is good but the second story is better than it. TOT has some good enviroments plenty to do and story line that starts pretty good and kind of falls into a....crappy one. But thats ok. Its a nice mix of everything. If its your first star ocean game then go for it. You'll love it I did. But make sure to play SO the second story.

I can only comment on the orginal VP and not vp2 but I assume they are similiar. The game has unique story telling and a interetesting battle system.

Both are good buys. Tri ace is always good.

Side scrolling only happens in VP2 when you are walking around dungeons and towns. The battles which is what counts are totally 3d. Although you cant jump and the battlefields get heavily reused. But its your call. Go ahead and listen to the people who havent even played both games lol. _AbBaNdOn

That's the reason why I'll most probably get SO TET. I love to explore. Able to rotate the camera is a must feature for me when walking/exploring. I want to enjoy every aspect of a game (gameplay, story, sceneries, sounds, graphics, length, etc.)

Rogue Galaxy and Kingdom Hearts are my favorite RPGs because...

RG = great battle system, one of the best graphics, very detailed sceneries

KH = you can go/step on almost anywhere/everything

SO3 starts great but I stopped playing after 15h or so. Being 100hours long isn't a good thing if it isn't 100 hours of fun, I prefer quality over quantity. VP has better story, and is more artistic. I see you are a rookie in RPGs... You should try Suikoden.TheCygnus

So wait.. you have about two pages of recomendations where anyone who has played both titles say that VP2 is clearly the better deal and you ignore everyone because the exploration takes place as a 2D platformer...

I feel like cussing but instead i will tell you to next time please just read a review instead of wasting peoples effort.

I understand exactly what you mean... iam the same, rpg games where you can move are great...coz there's always a chance that you beat the hardest boss in the game without him touching you if you're good enough.

the crack you smoke sir is of incredible proportions and quality. VP is a great game, i haven't had a chance to play star ocean yet but i intend to (as soon as i get thru the umpteen other rpg's im working on)

Also, why no FFXII? That's the closest thing to Rogue Galaxy you'll get, even though i do agree that Rogue Galaxy is a bit better.

I want Tales of the Abyss but I can't find 1 here in my country.

I tried FFXII. I borrowed it from a friend and then returned it the next day. I didn't liked the battle system. You can move, but you still have to wait to attack again. I expected it to be like Kingdom Heart's or Rogue Galaxy's battle system were you can do combos right away (first battle encounter).

PSU is expensive here. Same price as VP 2. SO TET is now $36 here. :)
