and the most beginner friendly? From the GS reviews, it seems that would be the first one, is that correct?

Having played all 3, I can say that I'm cut on which one has the best song selection, but none of the gameplay changes are significant enough to matter. GH1 was the best for getting into the series.

I'm gonna disagree that the 1st one was the easiest. Out of the 4 GH games, it has the most unforgiving window for doing hammer ons and pull offs. I'd say the easiest one to get into would be Rocks the 80s followed closely by GH3

I liked the song choices on 2, and it was pretty easy to pick-up. Though the other two came with wireless controllers...

Agreed.

I'll add that 1 and 2 are the only Guitar Hero games I really liked. I thought Rocks the 80s had a fairly weak track list and after Harmonix left I think the series went down the toilet.

1. Metallica

2. World Tour

3. III

4. Guitar Hero (the first one)

5. II

6. 80's

7. Aerosmith

Guitar Hero 1 was the funnest for me, and even though it was light on content i did like Rocks the 80's.

Guitar Hero 1 is the most beginner-friendly, but GH2 is the best of the series. I'd get GH2, because anyone can still play well as long as they start on the Easy difficulty setting.

The games themselves are not worth counting as a factor id say the differences are too minimal to boost 1 above the rest just look at the songs and whichever has more tracks you like go for that

GH1, I believe, is most beginner friendly(Aside from not being able to land the hammer-ons easily) and has the best setlist, though the other games have great songs too. World Tour's songs didn't really fly my fancy, and I haven't really played Metallica yet. I'm more of a Rock Band fan now, though with some more songs that i would like.

I lked the 2nd one the most because of the songs, but you really can't go wrong with either of the first 2.
