I hear Devil May Cry is easily the worst in the series. So I'm not sure if you want to touch that one. But maybe.....
And I don't really have many suggestions.
Xenosaga is pretty deep but the long cutscenes can get boring after a while. Some of them are reeeeeeeeeally long.
Final Fantasy XII isn't half bad. I recommend that over Xenosaga.
Yes, its worth it, but not for the games you listed :P (for me)
Devil May Cry 1 and 3 are good, the 2nd its garbage.
I didnt liked GTA: SAN ANDREAS, but really liked Vice City.
Anyways, if you are getting a PS2, this are awesome games you shouldnt miss: Okami, Final Fantasy 12, Zone of the Enders:2nd Runner, Metal Gear Solid 2, Metal Gear Solid 3:Subsistence, God of War and God of War 2.
I said I tried God of War. Read my message before replying. If I start playing Metal Gear Solid, I'll probably want to play MGS4 and get a PS3. No thanks. I don't even like MGS games really. I tried that too from the original Playstation. But anyways, forget it. I have a lot of games.Yes, its worth it, but not for the games you listed :P (for me)

You just confused the **** out of me. So you're not going to play a game because you'll like it too much and be tempted to buy a ps3? I guess you just decided you didn't want a ps2 anyway but I would get one if I were you. If there's one system every "gamer" should own I think it's ps2.

Is that I realized many of the PS2 games interests me especially not the ones from Sony themselves except for Jak. It wouldn't have been worth it years ago but now I think it is.Some sleeper RPGs that u you definitely pick up: Jade Cocoon 2, Dark Cloud 1 and 2, FFX and X-2 (don't bother with 12...it sucks), X-Men Legends 1 and 2, Baldurs Gate dark alliance 1 and 2, Summoner (maybe sommoner 2), Gauntlet dark legacy (get ure arcade fix :D), and The Bouncer (though it's kinda more of a fighter).
Some other games: Shadow of Collossus, Katamari Damacy + sequel, Twisted Metal black + head on, Ace combat 5, Gran Turismo 4, Ratchet and Clank/Sly cooper/Jak series (all good platformers), Kessen (fun strategy game), GTA Vice City (IMO best of the franchise) and many more that I can't think of right now.
PS2 is a MUST OWN platform if you are really a gamer.
PS: how do you not like Kingdom Hearts, MGS, or GOW?
PS: how do you not like Kingdom Hearts, MGS, or GOW?Derek240Not that I didn't like them. I couldn't get into God of War for some reason. I went far into the first game but I got bored. I also got bored with Kingdom Hearts but I love the story so I watch all the cutscenes and understood it well. As for MGS, I don't like games with a lot of stealth.
Jak and Daxter (all 3 games)nelfer320
There is 5 Jak and Daxter games: Jak and Daxter the Precursor Legacy, Jak II, Jak 3, Jak X Combat Racing and Jak and Daxter the Lost Frontier. You said you like fighting games, well there is Soul Calibur, Virtua Fighter and Tekken. I prefer Tekken. I loved Tekken 3 for the original Playstation, but when the PS2 came out it was updated and called Tekken Tag Tournament. Antoher great platformer is Crash Bandicoot. I remeber the original Carsh Bandicoot for the PS1 was great and there have been many many more released for both the PS1 and PS2 since.
those games would look awesome on that, my HDTV is smaller and both my PS3 and PS2 are hooked up to and all my games look excellent.
You choose the games you like best and I do not think you will be disappointed because there are so many to choose from.
If you are going to start with 10 take your time and get what you are pretty sure will be the ones you will enjoy.
If u buy the ps2 then you ABSOLUTELY HAVE TO BUY METAL GEAR SOLID THE ESSENTIALS COLLECTION. Greatest game series ever created. And yea it's worth it because it's only like 100 bucksMADKLOWN8480Yeah, buy the essentails MGS. That way you get all 3 games, new.

How r the following games. I'm already getting Jak, DMC, and MGS3. I'm thinking of getting the following but I want to know if they're at least decent. 1. Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex 2. Fullmetal Alchemist and the Broken Angel 3. Fullmetal Alchemist 2: Curse of the Crimson Elixir 4. Killer 7 5. God Hand 6. Final Fantasy XII 7. Megaman X Collection 8. Megaman X7 9. Megaman X8 10. Okami 11. Shadow of The Collosus 12. Viewtiful Joe 13. Viewtiful Joe 2nelfer320
All the games you listed are at least decent
I haven't tried Killer 7 or Okami so I won't comment on those two. Personally I don't like Megaman; they're kind of tough and I just don't have the patience or time to sit and master levels anymore. Megaman X Collectionshould suffice, get x7 and x8 only if you want more megaman action.
I only played a bit of Ghost in the Shell but it seems ok.I know you're a fan of anime but afar superiorshooter (if you haven't played already) I would recommend is 007: Everything or Nothing.
Fullmetal Alchemist is a light action rpg. It's linear, isn't very hard, and should be over fairly quickly. If you're a fan of theanime then you should have fun with it.
Viewtiful Joe series is awesome and I think every gamer should play it (especially when you can pick up both games used at gamestop for under $10). The 2nd one is more of the same with more stuff so if I had to choose 1 it'll be the 2nd one. I also enjoyed the action in God Hand a lot; it's quick and this is how 3d beat'em ups should be. I didn't like the story/setting/and characters so much; definitely can turn people away with it.
Final Fantasy XII is a serious (mmo-style) action rpg. The levels/environments are vast, the story takes itself pretty seriously (you've got strangely named kingdoms fighting each other, double crosses, etc.), prepare to spend time battling, looking over stats and items. I would suggest playing this when you've got a big chunk of time on your hands.
Shadow of the Colossus - the battles are epic and fun. Trying to find the colossi isn't. You have to travel on horseback (which controls somewhat realistically so it doesn't make quick turns, etc.)and traverse this large area of land withnothing to do in between.
I think it's unrealistic to say that you only want/need 10 games. The PS2's library of games is so huge and offers so much variety and used games are so cheap that I play it more than my xbox 360. Seriously I go to gamestop and thinkwith $60I can get at least 5 older but still awesome games for the PS2 compared to 1 next gen game (which usually doesn't offer much exceptshinier graphics).
My favorites: Maximo series, Sly Cooper (I like these over Ratchet and Jak), Viewtiful Joe, Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance, Nightshade or Shinobi, Tenchu Wrath of Heaven, Mark of Kri, Onimusha, the original Devil May Cry (like it more than 3), Blood Will Tell (great anime game), Rogue Galaxy, Final Fantasy x.

Thanks for the information. Much appreciated. BTW, I'm aware that the PS2 has a ridiculously huge library of great games but I have 2 other consoles and a handheld(dsi) with a lot of games on those. I don't want to have my room just full of games! I'll look pathetic. Anyways. I have decided to get some of the games both u and I mentioned. Not all. Thanks again though.Okay so I was looking at Metal Gear Solid games and I found out that MGS3: Snake Eater comes first chronologically. So should I get that over the rest of the series? I don't want to have a mess of games which most are from the same series. Jak and Devil May Cry are enough for me. I now would like a variety of different games each from a different series and the best of that series. Is MGS3 better than MGS2? Whats the best fighting game of all time on the PS2? Or give me 3(each from a different series) and could be 3D or 2D. I also like anime. Any good anime games on the PS2? BTW, Would these games look alright on a 32" HDTV? I have officially decided on getting DMC(3 gmaes), Jak(4 games now that I heard of LF. I'm not getting X cause I'm not a fan of racing games.), GTA San Andreas, and one of the MGS games.nelfer320
You should play the Metal Gear Solid games in the order they came out, not the order the stories take place chronologically. Metal Gear Solid 3 was actually my least favorite. Try 1 again, then go on to 2. They're both short games and well worth playing through. Also, you need to play ICO, that game is amazing.

I changed my mind on MGS. I also don't feel like playing Devil May Cry anymore for some reason. Same goes for Final Fantasy. The only game from that list that I have played is Final Fantasy XII. It's great at first, but becomes boring as hell later on. Here are some better choices for RPGs
