Hello... I am in the market to buy a new gaming system. However I can’t decide between PlayStation 4 or Xbox one. I was just curious to see what other people’s opinions and preferences are and to see if anyone can make the decision easier. Thank you for any input you may have.

Look at what games you want... Decide based off that.

despite this kind of question being like the bat signal (or mong signal) for die hard fanboy types, i think you're better off asking it in this forum rather than system wars, it's not guaranteed but you'll probably get slightly more rational options here.

coming from someone who owns both, i'd say my preference would be the ps4 and that's simply because i don't think the xbox has many exclusives, and the ones it has aren't all that appealing to me, in the way they used to be on the 360. it's a trite argument and entirely subjective but it's true for me.

so consider the exclusive landscape between the two, in both what's available and what's incoming over the next 12-18 months. then look at power, if that's a factor for you - the one X beats the pro in that regard. price wise, the pro is usually ~£50 cheaper if that's a concern. look at online and what your mates are playing on if you're a multiplayer gamer. look at the controller, and see if you have a preference. and if you're a digital only gamer, from my experience, xbox has much faster download speeds and an all round more comprehensive marketplace / platform.

after all that, whichever system has the most ticks next to it is probably the one to go for

If you love gear of war and/or forza (halo too) then go xbox one

If you are more inclined to ps4 games like horizon. uncharted. god of war. then get a ps4.

Both consoles have different games but both share a lot of multiplatform games too.

My advice: Wait for a sale (ps4 slim usually costs 300 while one s costs 250 - 300) wait for prices to go down 50 (I got one s brand new for 179 and ps4 pro brand new too for 350 for example).

If you buy on sales/discount days then you will make a great purchage no matter which one you get

I prefer the PS4. I used to own an XBOX One but it stopped reading the discs.

@randy46: what a load of bullshit, neither read the disc, the game is played from the HDD, the disc is only to install the game and as means of authentication of the software.

First question to ask yourself is have you any friends that game, or peers, co-workers, etc, what do they play on, because playing online with people, especially those you know, is most preferable.

I wouldn't worry about exclusives argument as most libraries are redundant with their AAA offerings.

Buy a PS4 now.

Get an Xbone later on for $50 to pick up Forza/halo/Gears.

Hi sunrazor,

I was in your situation in december. I decided to go with ps4. I think it ultimately comes down to what games you want. With games like horizon zero dawn, last of us, crash bandicoot, bloodborne and ratchet & clank the ps4 was an easy decision for me.

Still, i really wanted forza horizon 3, so i ordered an xbox one s last week. Yeah, i think it ultimately depends on what types of games and how many games you want to play. But if you're looking for a broader media experience from your console xbox may be a better choice.

For 80% of people, i’d suggest ps4 but you may fall within the xbox crowd, depending what types of games you play. If you’re into racing or only want a handful of games, consider the xbox.

I was originally not very tempted to get both but there are 7 or 8 exclusive xbox games i am interested in, so i went with both. The ps4 will remain my primary console.

@Macutchi: sorry meant to say that both consoles cover a lot of same territory with their AAA multiplats, exclusives should have less weight to someone without any inclination to swing either way, rather the people close to the person getting a new console and what they play on should matter more when deciding what console to get, as I think being able to play with others is more imprtant

So if friends, family, coworkers, etc, mostly play on PS4, get one of those. If it's XB1, then choose that.

@Random_Matt: yes, some people do. Proof of that is the fact upgrading the 500gb hd is not mandatory.

I personally bought the xbox one for 6 or 7 games that are not avail on ps (forza, gears of war, quantum break and a handful of others).

Ps4 has a ton more exclusive games than the xbox one (especially when not considering backwards compatible 360 games) and a more intuitive interface. There are casual gamers who only want to play a few games w/ their friends, though. some of those people may be better suited with xbox, especially if that’s what their friends have.

I’ll always be a Sony man. The only reason I bought an Xbox One was for the purpose of playing Rare Replay. (Grabbed by the Ghoulies. ;)

I feel as if Xbox has better racing games these days though.

Get a PC instead.

But since this is asking on what to buy either PS4 or Xbox One. It depends on what exclusive games you want to play the most. Now I can't tell you what to buy, but look at the exclusive games first before buying the console you want to play on.

I'm more of a PC gamer, but I also own PS4 & Nintendo Switch for there exclusive games, but PS4 happens to be my main console in the house when I use it's media stuff and playing lots of exclusive games.

Honestly.... Just get both! They each have amazing exclusive games. Plus if you have both then have flexibility to mod or just vanilla game.

I own both, and I'm choosing to ignore the 'which has better exclusive games' argument for my opinion.

I prefer the interface of Xbox to that of the PS4. Throw in the easily attached external hard drive and backwards compatibility, and that's why I like it better. I have a gigantic library of 360 games that I've amassed through the years and still play today; it is great to be able to go back and play them all on one console without breaking out the old machines to do so, and being able to store them all on a 2 tb hard drive that I just connect to the side of the console is just too easy.

I think both consoles are outstanding, but my preferences lean towards Xbox.

What is all this about? Ok, so I own a PS4 and i prefer the controller setup such as its interface and shape. To be fair, both consoles work great in their own ways, so, don`t know which console to get? Get whatever your friends have so you can do stuff with them. Or, if one console has this exclusive game and the other doesn`t, and you want this game badly, get that console. I think it is best to get what your friends have. I think PS4 is better though because of its exclusive games, controller setup and all my friends have one too.

I own both (Pro and X) and to be honest the PS4 is rarely used. But if you're looking just for the base models I maybe the PS4. It gives you the best multiplatforms and access to PS4 exclusives. Still MS is doing interesting stuff like back compatibility and game pass that ultimately makes me prefer the xbox over the PS4.

If you are looking for a platform that offers quality services with a good joystick focused on shooting games and multiplatforms. Go Xbox. But if you are looking for exclusive, awesome and innovative games. Go on Playstation.
