I'm not sure how to ask this perfectly, but I'm looking for games that will give me hours and hours maybe years of opportunities to keep grinding them. I want games that have a huge selection of items or the ability to customize your own weapons and etc.

I can give a semi example (which isn't good for customization), but Borderlands series had random loot and what not. I'm not really looking for a Borderlands alternative, but a game sort of like it?

Mainly just something that has millions of options.

It can be either a racing game (preferably with free roam) or RPG.

SINGLE PLAYER ONLY.

PC ONLY.

I've played the old Monster Hunter for PSP, but I never liked it. Any other suggestions?

@mistervulpes:

That's online though. Sorry should have clarified I'm looking for a single player game.

Oh dang, that’s a shame. The formula you’re looking for almost always has an online component because it keeps that looting aspect ongoing.

No chance of getting broadband?

I’d go with RSM then. I’ve heard great things about Monster Hunter. I actually picked it up on sale today. Downloading right now.

I’d recommend Monster Hunter World as well. While you may not have enjoyed previous Monster Hunter games this one may very change your mind given some of the quality of life changes they’ve made to it.

My other recommendation would be Diablo III.

Morrowind running in OpenWM + Tamriel Rebuilt + Morrowind Rebirth

...okay okay, that requires a bit of setup, modding a tweaking. It's super rewarding though once you get it running. Still one of my favorite open world RPG experiences ever. And with those mods there is basically an endless amount of content.

Other SP games I sunk a ton of hours into that don't require a bunch of work:

  • Monster Hunter World, as others have stated. ~150 hours and I've only just started the end game grind. It's an Action game more than an RPG though. You customize and craft your gear. It's all about the monster loot and the gear.
  • Fallout 4 - The story sucks but you can easily explore the world and do the base building stuff for 400 hours like I did. I've never actually beaten the story. Who cares I had fun though.
  • Skyrim - Still requires mods to get the best experience, but I sunk about 300 hours into it.
  • Divinity: Original Sin 2 - Hot damn this game is fun. You'll easily get 100+ hours on the first play through. Then there is plenty more to do in subsequent play throughs plus lots of mods and user-created content.

You may not be looking for something you have to put work into to enjoy, but you can't beat a Bethesda game + mods for 'millions of options' and 'hours and hours maybe years of opportunities'.

@homework9293: Not with first hand experience for your particular requirement. Probably guess Diablo games or Destiny.

I think the PSP Monster Hunters are considered the worst of the bunch to be honest.

Path of Exile might fight your bill though and it is free! Also Grim Dawn may be an option

What did you base that on? Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G is one of the most beloved games in the franchise.

And while 3 and 4 heavily improved the hitbox detection and 4 added mounting many of the loved features still used in World came from the PSP games.
