So the race card seems to get played a lot in games these days. Just recently, Resident Evils 4 and 5 raised tons of controversy about the killing of almost exclusively ethnic enemies. Coming from the United States, where the majority of the popularity is white, is this racist? If you look deep enough, even a game like WoW is riddled with racism. The majority of Alliance classes are essentially representations of white, "normal" people, while horde classes represent such foreign cultures as Native Americans (Tauren) and Jamaicans (Trolls). While not necessarily hostile, this separation of races still exists. Is this really a problem, or is all of this being blown out of proportion? Personally, I think the sooner we stop identifying other races as being separate at all, the better off we'll be.

The Resident Evil problem is something that would only exist in the United States. You guys still deal with a lot of "skin colour" issues over there but hopefully its not too long until those issues are erradicated once and for all. I personally think that and the Warcraft arguement are completely crazy! Years ago there was not much diversification in video game characters ethnicities. And as more and more games have the create-your-own-character option this is becoming a thing of the past. Today you cannot create games without characters that have a diverse range of ethnicities as game companies are trying to market their product to EVERYONE and also I think gamers also want to see a diverse range of characters! Btw, I dont like to use the term "race" becase there is only 1 race and it's called the human race :D

WW2 CoDs are racist. You always commit mass genocide on germans or japs... Or both...

It's only racist if you make it racist.

The setting for RE5 is in a predominantly Black area. Same thing with WWII games, the settings were populated by Germans or Japanese because that's who would have been there. It would be unnatural, not to mention unnecessary, to change the normal/expected ethnicity just to avoid being labeled a racist.
