I`m struggling to find a game for PC with custom designed tracks like it was in NFS HS1 and NFS PU, amazing european tracks like Durham Road, Route Adonf, Landstrasse, Kindiak Park, Schwarzwald etc. They were so amazing I could just run single race without opponents just to enjoy the track itself. Choices now are either the "open world" (all latest NFS, no waaaaay!) or licensed real world racing tracks (Project CARS, Gran Turismo). Closest game with that kind of tracks was NFS The Run, but I wonder, if there is any other games?

The Trackmania series lets you design your own tracks and there's a ton of community content available.

It's a series, and the majority of the games in the series were released originally (or exclusively) on PC. They have their own download/distribution system but they also have several installments on Steam (about 6 games in the series, I think) with one from 2008 being available for free and a new game coming out later this month.

This series in no way aims for realism so expect to find some crazy, over the top tracks with giant loops, jumps, etc.

Well, I found Forza Horizon is very close to what I was searching. While it`s an open-world racing, surroundings are pretty nice and sometimes looks pretty similar to what was in early NFS games. Controls are perfectly fluid and it`s first game, since NFS PU, where I turned on manual shifting and feeling very comfortable with it. Simply driving around and exploring is also very satisying. Turning off HUD and switching to cockpit view looks pretty much like real driving. What I miss is snowy locations, weather conditions and ability to turn traffic off. Anyway, it is a great game, I played Forza 4 before, but it felt too "serious" to me. So, anyone who is looking for old NFS feel might want to check Horizon. I also eager to try Driveclub, but since it was released by SCE, I think there is no chance it will be released outside PS4, one more point to buy the console, apart from the ability to play Heavy Rain and Last of Us Remastered.
