Why is it that driving 65 mph in a game seem like driving 30 mph in real life? What causes this? Focal blur?

g-forces, subtle vibrations of the car, no peripheral vision in a racing game (thus not seeing a blur of trees in the coner of your eye).

although really, I think it's mostly the g-forces.

Which game are you talking about?

They're all different as far as sense of speed is involved, some are good, some aren't, IMHO..!

Im talking about Gran Turismo 5 Prologue. I always wondered why going so fast felt like driving on the streets. Games like GTA4 IIRC dont seem that bad.

I'd guess the smaller field of view, which would cause you not to see blurry stuff on the sides until you get to higher speeds.

Like previously said, no extra sensories (engine rumble, etc.), no peripheral vision, no real depth perception

Well at least in racing games you don't lose much when you slam into a tree...

This.

Also, it's impossible to simulate EVERYTHING from real life into a game. There's a big difference between actually being in the car and sitting on a couch controlling one. Besides that, I'd say that Forza 3 does a pretty good job as a racing simulator.
