I read a few reviews today on the PS3 version of Rage. They were all pretty good, but I have to be honest, I'm not impressed. Is this game really as good as they all say, or is it good compared to all the other crap that has come out recently?
Umm I don't know how to answer your question because I'm sure I don't understand it :?
But from what I hear it's pretty good but not great, it's open world but the world isn't very large and it only has about 10 hours of gameplay including side missions. It does have multiplayer (co-op I think) but that will be dead when COD comes out.
I'm not really asking Rage players anything. I'm asking what everyone's opinions are of the reviews that are given by numerous gaming sites. I don't care what players think (I'm pretty sure that most people will agree that it isn't anywhere near as good as it should be). I just don't understand how a game like Rage can get a "Great" rating by a website like IGN. I have read the review over and over again. There is nothing there about how the story is almost non-existent. Is story no longer necessary? Also, does Bethesda slap there name on everything that takes place in a barren wasteland? I guess so.

Well I use reviews kind of like Wikipedia, ok to use for a general-quick look but take it with a grain of salt and look for better sources. But I don't trust IGN especially since I find that IMO they tend to overrate everything. And Bethesda didn't make RAGE they simply published it....
I actually know that they didn't develop it. That is why I said "slap" their name on it. Obviously they did that to raise sales of the game. Do really think that it would have sold so successfully if it wasn't pushed by a company already responsible for a best-selling, free roam, wasteland, rpg/shooter? No it wouldn't have. But I see what you mean. I don't usually take reviews too seriously. I have just disagreed with them more so lately.
The game is good worth checking out but not much life all the good games are coming out soon and it wont stand a chance against them, i brought a copy
almost finished it played the multiplayer a bit , But i dare say ill prob trade it or sell when the good 1s come out. still glad i got it thou my type of game.
Played it a little bit. Didn't like it. Maybe I shouldn't judge it so soon but from the first 30 minutes the story is horrible and graphics (especially megatextures) are a disappointment. The shooting is ok, but nothing special. Kinda disappointed (especially graphics-wise), won't hold a candle to games like Skyrim and BF3, imo.

I think Rage has deserved the good reviews. It's better than I expected it to be. The gameplay and story might not be too impressive, but the detailed animations, the level design and sound make it highly immersive. I totally felt like showering after I've left that infested hospital. *shiver* By far the best singleplayer shooter I've played since Black. I believe the people who are disappointed just misunderstood the concept of Rage. When people heard open world, apocalyptic wasteland, mutants and Bethesda all in one breath they started to think Fallout and expected a RPG/shooter hybrid. But Rage is just a shooter with little RPG influences. A pretty good one.
It's a decent to good game. I must say that after all this wait, it's been a pretty disappointing game. Some of the sidequests feel monotonous and boring to do. The game is pretty much one sided, linear but it gives you the appearance that it's open world. You travel from one area to the other using a vehicle but once you step through the portal, that section is linear, corridor. I was hoping for an open-world game with tons of exploration but this is not.

Yeah it unfortunately lacks depth. A lot of potential with a great setting and look, but it ends up just being another A to B shooter. Wish they had opened it up a bit more and fleshed out some RPG elements. I love that they went to some effort to put them minigames and the like in there, but they aren't really as engrossing as I'd like. I was pysched when I heard it had a collectible card game, my mind flashed back to Final Fantasy and Triple Triad, but it doesn't really compare.
id is a bit out of touch these days in my opinion. I think people expect a little more depth in their games these days, especially ones that are pretty much solely single player experiences. Running and gunning for no reason than to shoot things was enough for me in the 90s with Quake, but I think my taste has evolved a fair bit since then though.
I'm kinda hearing the same stuff with everyone, which is refreshing. I like to see that professional reviews haven't swayed us from having our own opinions. The game is no good, bottom line. Not worth the money, which is the most important thing.
Im looking to buy it when I get some more spare money -.- but from the looks of it here is what I get from the reviews:
The story is next to nill (which is ok in my world, in most games the story only exists to propel the gameplay warwards, gods forbid that anyone say that a game like crysis or Cod has a good story either.
The gameplay looks pretty good, the shooting mechanics look average, but the ai looks impressive. And it seems the game **** give you "oh snap" moments.
People! Have we forgotten why we love video games in the first place? Or are you all too young to remember the stories that made gaming what it is today? Screw the graphics, screw the gameplay, because without a story, those things don't even matter. Gaming is going down the freaking toilet. Without console exclusives, gaming would be in real trouble.
