I've had some bad run in's with local game retailers before, and I was wondering what you guys might think of YOURS. For instance, a lot of people in the gamespot forums say their GameStop suck, and/or provide them with the worst service, but the one a couple blocks away from my house have cool employees and awsome service. I frequently go to my local GameStop because of their service, on the other hand there's a Game Crazy near my house aswell, but several times they have put me on hold and NEVER came back. Just yesterday I was just calling them for a megaman game, then they told me to hold on while they check the computer... FOR 20 MINUTES, then I just hung up. It has happened way too many times to be because they're "packed". And please, nothing like EBay, because you never really meet the person. On the other hand, Craigslist is okay because of the wide variety of people selling their stuff, they can be abnoxious, kind, sincere, jerks, etc. The reason why I'm posting this in the legacy forums is because all the current generation systems/games are so popular, it doesn't provide real challenges to finding a desired game. If you call GameStop and ask if they have, say Halo 3 for the 360, they probably know if they have it or not off the top of their head. On the other hand, if you call and ask for say, Ico for the ps2, then they're probably going to say, "Let us check to see if we have it." Put you on hold, check the computer, then get back to you whenever they feel like it. I understand that stores may be packed, and employees have their hands full, so only post what happens so many times that it COULDN'T be because they're packed and busy.

I like Game Crazy the most. The EBs around are alright but I can't stand GameStop. I hate the manager at the one nearest to my house. The next closest GameStop to that one smells funny.

Hmm, what're the requirements to work at a EB Games or GameStop? I'm going to need a part time job soon. :)

Have some knowledge of video games and legally be able to work? It can't be very hard to get a job there so long as there is a position.

My best experience has been with Gamecrazy. They are knowledgeable and actually will try and help you find a game, talk with you, etc... They DO try and sell you waaaaaaaaaay too many things at the counter when you just want to purchase a game, 2 year disc repair, warranties, news letters, club cards, pre orders, etc...

Game N Trade where I live at is terrible. I walked in, guy said hello, and I started looking around. A shelf of used 360 games, not a wall, a shelf, same with the PS3 and Wii, then the rest of the store is just all old used stuff and retro games. They had some nice stuff, but overall, they had absolutely nothing new. It's said when their most current game was Gears of War.

well ... of the two game stores within ten blocks of my house (yay :P) they are both pretty good. My Gamestop only ever has one person working at a time so it gets bad when there are more people in the store. My GameCrazy though has some really good guys there, they all know exactly where everything is and always offer to help if there is anything they can do. I prefer GameCrazy much more though because they usually have a better selection and for cheaper :)

There's a local store in Bowling Green, Ohio called C & C Games that I would rate %100; 10/10; 5 Stars; or what have you...

Best store I've ever been to and I'm sad that I no longer live there for that reason alone...

I mostly buy from Gamestop because it is only a 5-10 minute drive from my house. I usually find what I'm looking for, but I get aggravated at some of the employees there. They are beyond obsessed with games at times.

For pre-orders and brand new (recently released) titles I go to the Gamestop by my work and the service is generally good, but only when the manager is there, she rocks! The rest of the crew is meh. For most of my gaming purchases I use Amazon.com because the games are generally cheaper and they have everything brand new availabe from a variety of sellers.

The used games I buy at EB games are great. And I can get new games at Big W and target that are the cheapest around.

Not much, I worked there, the system is lousy. I heard that they give raises, and when mine came, since I wasn't there long (7 months...) they gave me a 5 cent raise. I quit soon after that. I'm still fighting to get both managers fired, they screwed me over bad and have tried to run my name through the dirt. If you want a quick buck, it works, but just don't go in looking to climb the ladder into a career, they don't have anything to offer, trust me. My managers are at least 30+ and make 12 for assistant and about 15 possibly for manager. I'm only 18 and I already make more than they do anyways.

But hey, if they hire you, you can make a quick buck. Make sure you ask for a thing of rules and a copy of the thing you have to sign. There are so many technicalities that they even tried to fire me for buying a game outside of the store off of a person on my own time. They don't have anything better to do.

I think every store really varies. it also depends who's working at the time. but usually I go to my local Gamecrazy (like 1 mile away) and they are pretty good. Also, there's a small local store near me called Gamezone. both places they just ask me if i'm looking for anything in particular. i hate when places start suggesting games i should get or ask me if i have a particular game. I prefer them to just leave me alone really. lol. Gamestop is a huge chain, so they are all about the same. i think my city has a gamestop every few miles.......kinda overkill.

We got like, one Gamestop in my town, a few months ago, it's awesome, before they were here i always had to buy my games at some stupid bookstore, and i'm already a valued costumer at the new Gamestop :P

Whenever i go in their like "Joey! What would it be today?" And if i'm buying something, it's always either "And we'll just take 3 bucks off the price" or "You know, i'll sell you the special edition for the same price" He lied about that last one though, i got it a bit cheaper :D

we've got this independant game store near where i live. they do carry all the used NES games and the like. which is pretty cool. they also have a wall of shame where they put all the worst games in history.

I used to go to a place called Microplay, but recently they've been buggin me. They really reduced their trade values, and they are generally more expensive than they used to be. The employees don't even seem to know that much about games. I ran in to 1 employee who didn't know that the wii play GC games.

My favourite place to go is EB. Great service, the guys there know a lot about games and good prices and trade values. The only thing I really hate is that they insist on putting those stupid stickers on used game manuals. They're such a pain to get off without ruining the manual

I usually order my games online from Amazon.com or if I buy them in person I go to Best Buy. Both places have excellent return policies, I've even returned games I've played that I didn't like.

There's a local game store called Game Heaven that has Awesome sales on Retro and New games. They also have a buy 2 get the third free on most of thier games (excluding 360, XBOX, PS3, PS2, PSP, Wii, GameCube, and DS).

I also like to check thrift store because I find old PC games there

The gamestops in my area are pretty cool, especially if you have a coupon and an edge card. Lately the flea market in my area has been lame. People have these old games that arent worth $3 and want $10 or $12 for them and they're beat. Sometimes you can find some cool clearance deals at target, circuit city, toys r us, etc.

I hate Gamecrazy with a passion. They never shut up about their damn MVP card every time I go there and I just say no I don't want it (because I hate this stupid store in the first place, idiot lol)

So I try to avoid that store as much as possible.

my gamestop has awesome people at it, but as a retailer, i think best buy is overall better. gamestop never has any good sales, and best buy's customer service is a lot better.

Well let's see. There are 2 Gamestops that I go to the most for my gaming needs. There are also 3 more that I only go to when I visit the mall they are located at.

Gamestop 1-They just moved into a bigger store. Great selection of games. Friendly workers. I've never had any problems with the games not working. Not that I can remember.

Gamestop at 2-This one is fairly new. Great selection. Some of the workers can be jerks but I've met a few cool ones. Though I've had one incident with a game not working. Other than that there used games are in practically new condition.

Gamestop 3-I haven't been there in a great while but I know it's small and not much of a selection. I bought Lost Kingdoms 2 there a while ago and it was cheap and in great condition. But I'm not sure how it is now a days.

Gamestop 3- Horrible. Small store, decent selection, workers aren't friendly, and every game I've gotten there with the exception of Final Fantasy X was scratched or damaged.

Gamestop at 4-Small store. Gets very crowded and hard to move around without bumping into other shoppers. Workers are friendly and hold conversations with you. Good selection, games are usually in good condition though I've had a few problems with games not working from there.
