or guilty gear, or dark stalkers, or King of Fighters, etc. i think he meant the best ones out of the ones he listed
Out of those series...
1. Virtua Fighter
2. Tekken
3. SoulCalibur
4. Dead or Alive
Out of all high-quality fighting series...
1. Street Fighter III (3rd Strike is the culmination of an amazing concept.)
2. Virtua Fighter (Was the only 3D fighting series worth playing for a long time.)
3. Street Fighter II (Could make a case for #1 or 2, top three for sure.)
4. Tekken
5. Capcom vs SNK
6. Street Fighter Alpha/Zero
7. King of Fighters
8. Guilty Gear
9. SoulCalibur (Lost a ton of stock by pandering to fans and inadequate testing.)
10. Dead or Alive (New to this list, doing pretty well for itself.)
11. Marvel vs Capcom (Got off to a strong start, but got way too stupid in the end.)

I wonder if you're a fan of the Samurai Shodown games or Garou: Mark of the Wolves. I'd place them in that list as well, but that's becuase I'm a fan of them.
I also personally like The Last Blade series, even though they didn't quite acheive the popularity as I wish it did. I'd love to see a Samurai Shodown VS The Last Blade.
And finally, I know that they really don't count, but anime-based fighters are quite good as well. The Naruto Gekitou Ninja Taisen series is really good for what it is (even though it lacks depth, a little bit less than the DOA series) and the Fist of the North Star game created with the Guilty Gear engine looks quite good. I have to import this one day before it's too late.

To put it bluntly, I'm not a fan of anything. Fandom suggests some measure of loyalty, and there's not a series on earth that I wouldn't turn against like a rottweiler if it screwed up.
The problem with the individual SNK franchises (KOF was more of an amalgamate franchise) is that they squoze each other out of the scene. Outside of a very small Samurai Shodown II community here, and an equally small Garou Densetsu Special community in Japan (which may not even still be around), these series never really entered the competitive arena (a major requirement for any list of this kind that I make), and thus, never had the chance to prove themselves.
And I simply don't acknowledge any "just for fun" games.

I see. Interesting.
And when I meant fan, I don't know any other word to use for a person who likes certain titles. So in respect,I'll correct myself and say that I personally enjoy these games and would include them on your list,so I was just wondering what your opinion on them was. That's what I should have said. I'll keep that in mind next time when I respond to your posts.
I still would like to see a Samurai Shodown VS The Last Blade...I'm a art guy and like seeing character designs especially ones that deal with Samurai and swordsmanship. I personally play these games (including the ones on your list)for that reason because of the concept and characters. I guessI find inspiration in these games becauseof the artistic mastery these developers pour into these games.

Off-topic I suppose, but I have to ask - are you an artist yourself?

Yes. I have been for awhile. It's been tough, but I'm winging it the best I can.
