A few years ago I was playing "real" roleplaying games with my friends, using dices, paper and our imagination. Since then I did not have time to do it anymore, and also focused more on computer based role playing games.

However, I kind of miss that game experience, where only the imagination was setting limits to what you can do. And, our dungeon master was an incredible story teller, many of the adventures could have been written down and published...

I wonder, are there any online communities where players can play the old fashioned role playing games with a dungeon master, using text-chat or maybe a microphone? With some kind of dice rolling and character management system? :)

There are a few programs, basically interfaces for dice rolling, map and image sharing. I've never used them myself since I game with friends who live in town, but try asking on rpg.net's forums. I think one of the programs were simply called WEBRPG.

Also, Neverwinter Nights 2 (and 1?) and Vampire supported realtime dungeon mastering through their module building software.

Like the poster above me stated, Neverwinter Nights and its sequel have online dm'ing tools and a great tool set to create your own adventures.

A person can create a dm server and pretty much accomplish anything a dm can in real life (it takes a little longer because of the interface) but it is the closest you'll get to PnP
