recommend PS2 games for a begginer

i finally going to borrow a PS2 from a friend of mine. i have never gamed on anything other than PC, so i know the lack of japanese games on PC, thats why i wat to play some on PS2. i want really really great games. i dont want them for the sake of nostalagia because i didnt have a PS2 before. i want them to be weird, different experience with great great story and other worldy stuff, i want them to keep me hooked and entertain. dont recommend too many, just the most two games that fit my description.

i dont know if i made myself clear or not, but im looking for this special experience, please no cliches and dating sims.

GET GTA San andreas, then mortal kombat

Metal Gear Solid 2 & 3. Actually, just get the Metal Gear Solid Essential Collection. Here

the Metal Gear Solidseries (2 and 3 are on the ps2 but you can play 1 since its backward compatible) and Final Fantasy 10 are good starts

other good games are the Jak and Daxter series, Mortal Kombat, God of War, Dead or alive 2 , Tomb Raider Legend.

Hmm, I'll recommend some different games from everyone else, so I would start with Dragon Quest VIII, Castlevania: Lament of Innocence, Metal Gear Solid 3 Substance(Get this version over the one in the collectors pack. This one also offers the two MSX Metal Gear games) so, there's a good start.

Also, don't forget about PS1 games. Castlevania: Symphony of the Night is one of the best games ever made, and is defiantly worth checking out.

There have been a few good suggestions such as 'Ico' and 'Shadow of the Colossus'. I'd add Okami, Psychonauts, Magic Pengel: The Quest for Color, Graffiti Kingdom, Odin Sphere, Eternal Poison, the Shadow Hearts series, Persona 3 FES, Persona 4, Disgaea 1 & 2, and Katamari Damacy as a few other good, non-mainstream PS2 games.

I've never played it, but "Mister Mosquito" looks weird.

You should check out Indigo Prophecy, it sounds like the kind of game your looking for - it's wierd, has a great story and it's different to anything else I have ever played.

like some people have mentioned aready, I highly recommend Ico, and Shadow of the Colossus if you can get your hands on them.

Also, Check out Persona 3 and 4, and Final Fantasy X if you want JRPG's. I know you only wanted 2 games, but I couldn't help myself :P

If you want RPGs, those seem to be the top choices (although doesn't Persona 3 have a dating sim?). Ico and Shadow of the Colossus fit your description perfectly (Ico is a bit expensive though), and I still say Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3. They are otherworldly. Giant flying mech things, a vampire who walks on water, people who can't die and a man with another man living in his arm. And that's just one game. Not exactly what you call...down to earth.

when i say other worldy, i dont mean fantasy stuff, like you just said. im looking for other worldy stuff that reflexes our world if you know what i mean. ill start FFX, although im not really into RPGs, but i heard so so much about FF games i just cant ignore it. GazaAli

I really don't know what you mean, if you could go into a little more detail. And Final Fantasy is pure, well, fantasy.

You should check out the Kingdom Hearts series, along with Okami, Devil May Cry series and Dragon Quest VIII.

i know im alittle difficult to understand :P because i dont make sense sometimes. im looking for something different. dam i cant explain. i want something that will give me a really weird different feeling, not just a quick weird adventure game or whatever. i want something that will last in my memory, like watching a really good anime like NGE or Rahxephon.GazaAli

Okay well I still say Metal Gear Solid! :P It has such a deep unusual story that expands over the entire series, it will definitely make a lasting impact on you, and I think that's what you're looking for.

Resident Evil 4 is another that can really dig in and grab you.

These are games that made a lasting impression on me, more than your average action/adventure game.

Silent Hill 2- fantastic game, it has a great story and amazing atmosphere.

Ico - It's a work of art in my eyes, truly memorable.

Shadow of the Colossus - So unique and epic.

Actually, go with Accent Core Plus, its the superior version.

And TC, i envy you so much. The PS2 is like one of the best systems i've ever owned, being able to play the entire library like this is awesome.
