I dont think theres anyways to turn down the gore (and the language is just cheesy rather than... non cheesy, true to the RE style). Just dont go near Chainsaw dude, the Blind dude and the Regenerators if you dont want to see gore.
It was actually my first mature horror game too. The language usually isn't an issue, theres a good amount of blood but I didn't find any of the effects too unerving
No, not that I know of. How old are you? because if you dont like violence and gore well your not gonna be able to handle the scare factor.

Yeah-haha, I was in my late 20's when I first played this game. I honestly had to take a break the first 30mins of playing this game at night by myself.
The Visual, slow head turning of a presumable zombie that was previously shucking hay with a pitchfork that momentarily stopped to take notice of you. All in a greyish eerily uncolorful and lifeless surrounding of a 3rd world state. The surrounding noises and unfamiliar shreeks in aforeign language really gets ur imagination running more than waht the horror to come is about to offer.
Only saving grace of fear control is that your character has a loaded 9mm - and of course you realize that its just a video game. But oh what a chilling display of a masterpiece thrill ride!
Be advised, this game is intended to scare the #(@* out of u. ;)
