It's fairly common to hate. But I really enjoyed 5 and Revelations.

6 has it's moments as well. My main gripe was the overuse of waggle.

I thoroughly enjoyed Resident Evil 4-6, despite how silly they were (but the series has always been silly). They're also the best-selling games in the series. So...I wouldn't say that it's getting worse.

6 is the best RE game so far. And as far as Capcom is concerned, RE5/6 being the best is what they're hearing, since they are the 1st and 3rd top selling games they have their name on.

No I don't think that they are getting worse. I still really enjoyed 5 & 6. While 6 did have a few rough spots in it I had a lot of fun with it and thought it was a pretty great game.

No it isn't, the original formula just changed.

I'll ignore background info since it sounds like you are familiar with the series. RE 4 easily focused more so on action when they improved movement and added quick time events. When the devs saw the praise RE 4 got for those additions, obviously the next RE 5 & 6 would be more action based. In most horror games, controls are clunky, not as smooth, and you are most certainly not a professional killer with an assault rifle. Because of those imperfections, the players ability and confidence dwindles. Instead of a fight response, a horror game with those imperfections encourage a flight response aka survival instincts. Moral of story is you reap what you sow. If the critics and fanbase had not praised the improved combat in RE 4&5 so much, RE 6 most likely would have been a lot different. Unfortunately, the game is no longer niche and Capcom has gotten a taste of the huge sales COD copy n paste games make. Both RE 5&6 are two of Capcom's best sellers The game will not return to it's original format, since lets face it you are in the minority and survival horror market barely exists to warrant AAA investments. RE 6 was not a failure because it lacked horror, it was a failure because it was a watered down version of the similarly action packed RE 5 with basic game flaws. Instead a new series will be created:
