I wish I was. The game is severly lacking in any fear whatsoever. It was a fun game, but it's better suited to action, as that goes better with the cheesy dialogue and stuff.

Survival horror, but RE5 was decent. Not the best game in the series though.

Also, I still don't get why RE4 is considereed revolutionary by a lot of people...

I could care less if a game was scary or not. It was the survival aspects that added a great deal of strategy and planning that made the old resident Evils enjoyable and unique. Now it's just another shooter and it can't compete with the others in the genre...

Survival horror. Back when you had to choose to spend ammo or save it for even more dangerous enemies later on. But right after Raccon City got nuked it went all action with a little scare here and there.

Third person action, RE4 was amazing. I tried playing RE1 on the Gamecube but the gameplay was so bad IMO I sold it, and I never sell my games.

They did both excellently. The old RE games were never matched, easily the best "survival horror" franchise. RE4 is one if not the greatest action game ever made. Whatever they do this series has always and will always be top quality.dvader654

That's the worst thing someone has ever said here!

My computer can not run it and from the let pays I seen the game play look boring.

The problem is horror is an emotion and something they want you to shut down you thinking to get the most from. Games on the other hand is about problem solving so you need to keep thinking. It hard to be scared when you have something you need to deal with.

I am a fan of both. I think we should get alternating styles in releases though. Maybe even allowing another company to make a game with the RE name on it. Don't sell them the rights to the franchise just 1 game.

My two favourites in the entire series are RE2 and RE4, 2 = horror 4 = Action. RE4 is possibly one of the greatest action games ever made.

Resident Evil was never scary.

Back then it was just a bad point and click adventure game and now it's just a bad third person shooter.

Survival Horror. Resident Evil 4 is amazing but 5, Mercenaries, and Revelations are absolutely awful. The problem isn't necessarily that they're action games, it's that they're bad action games.

Metamania

RE4 completely changed the third person genre by introducing the over the shoulder angle, which has since been used by virtually every other third person shooter out there. It also included precision aiming with "bullet" points on the enemy to make them react accordingly. If you shot a running enemy in the knee he'd fall down, shooting weapons out of an enemy's hand, etc.

It doesn't seem like anything now, but at the time there wasn't anything else like it.

LOL yeah ok. The first few were fantastic, second only to the RE series but RE easily had the better games.

I was serious though,it's a really bad thing to say.

The story in RE is weak, compared to the really, really deep story in SH.

:/ know before you speak.

Too true. I was referring to making a survival game. Capcom has shown that they are going action and MP. By letting another company spend their own money making a game in another genre, they(Capcom) can get a good picture on whether or not the genre is profitable. If the game garners critical acclaim and sells like guano, they wont bother with another. If it sells like we, the old school RE fans think it will, they might be persuaded to make more. After all, money talks.

I'm still waiting for them to find that perfect balance. I wouldn't say any of the games have been proper 'horror' games, though the original Resident Evil games had a much better sense of eerie atmosphere, a creepy vibe with some great edge-of-your-seat and shock-jump moments, with actual zombies (as opposed to later games 'infected' non-zombies). If those games had been pure exploration and puzzle games, I could have forgiven the horrendously clunky controls and would've liked them a whole lot more. But the fact that they tried to include any form of action/combat just made them exercises in tedious frustration. So, while RE4 and RE5 aren't remotely scary, they play much, much better (even if they do still suffer from controls that don't entirely lend themselves to action shooters) and I had more fun with them. But I will say that I really enjoyed the Lost in Nightmares mode on RE5. I'd really wish they'd gone that route with RE6. You had the eerie atmosphere and light puzzles of the original games, plus limited ammo and supplies, merged nicely with the more fluid controls and combat of RE4 and 5. If they made that into a full game, with a massive environment to explore, and included more action/combat moments, I think they'd finally have the ultimate Resident Evil survival horror action experience. If I have to choose one or the other, though, I definitely prefer the more action-oriented version of Resident Evil, with co-op as an option. Even if it does come across as Army of Two...with pseudo-zombies/monsters.

I in fact loved RE4 and RE5, despite it changing the core mechanics of the original RE games. I wouldn't mind RE6 being scarier though but I feel like most games this generation have failed on the horror aspect. Dead Space changed that for a little bit but the 2nd and it sure looks like the 3rd looks more like an action game than a horror game. anyway, I prefer horror over action, but I'm happy with RE4 and 5. btw RE3 is one of my favorite games ever.

Was never big on any of them. But I do recognize the difference in tone between those from 4 on.
