What does it take for you to respect a game or franchise you do not like? Also add what you mean by respect?

I find for me to respect that game then the game’s game play need to be well done and its concepts need to be well executed.

For me respect a game is that I can say the game is good even though I do not like it.

It is really simple, you know the game is good, but it isn't your genre or type of games. Metal gear is such game for me, not my thing, but I got some respect for that game

Simple respect is to not shit on it. And it require in my case a large numbers of players playing it. Like Dota or LOL.

If there's something about the game that draws many players in and keeps them playing, it has my respect. I may not like games like Call of Duty, Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil, or even Borderlands, but I can see why others do, and that's worthy of respect.

For me, it's more about respecting peoples choice to like a game that I don't have any interest in. But that's something that I apply to life...not just games.

I think most (reasonable) gamers don't need to like something to respect the effort or recognize its value to others.

I respect the Final Fantasy series even though I don't care for them one bit.

Unfortunately gamers, at least on internet forums, have a "do or die" attitude, either something is perfect, or a perceived flaw is seen as a disgraceful sin dismissing the games value. You kinda see as well the juvenile 0 and 1's on metacritic for what are clearly, not bad games, at least not to that level. It's like a sense of entitlement that other people shouldn't be allowed the privilege to enjoy it.

For me personally League of Legends and in general, Dota style games come to mind. Perhaps I'm just shit at them, not skilled or intelligent enough to grasp the games intricacies to truly enjoy it, if you look around the gaming landscape, it's pretty clear it does something profound for people, it's resulted in children in China placed in special gaming addiction schools as well as people living out million dollar careers as a sport, with millions tuning in to watch events in stadium sized arenas.

When millions of people like a game I don't, I know it's just my taste, but there's definitely something about that game everybody loves.

Examples are LoL, DOTA 2, CoD and BF... they don't appeal to me, but I respect those games for having such a large fanbase and it has to be for a reason.

Yeah, same here. I can see that they've put alot of effort into it. But I personally find it rather boring. That said, I haven't given it much of a chance yet. Maybe once I get my head around the 10 zillion combat options it might be more enjoyable, we'll see...
