Retro games into HD?

Is it possble to convert the NES, SNES, Sega ( and it's add-ons) PS1, PS2, into full 1080p, with wireless controls.

If its just upping the resolution to 1080, then sure.

If its by converting all the games' art to be natively 1080, then its theoretically possible, but completely impractical.

I think it would be neat to play some old school games  in HD. Not all would benefit from this, but the idea is pretty nice. Even 1080p is not necessary, something along the lines of 720 or 480p would be neat. Some games have held up well in terms of design and art. I was playing Super Metroid the other day and was noticing how great the game still looks.
