why don't any games have bots in multiplayer anymore? even just for offline when you have a couple of friends over and feel like taking on an army of pathetic AI especially for people who cant be on the internet all the time due to bandwidth and download limits (ie Australians) am i the only one that misses them? if not say aye

It is probably because online multiplayer is the "new thing" among console games and bots are not "needed" anymore because you can find just as many droning nimrods online as you could by just loading up a bunch of senseless CPU controlled programs.

I myself really like playing with bots, even if they are dumb, it makes the game more enjoyable instead of always having to find a game online and then compensate for lag. I wish more games offered them.

I feel the same way too sometimes. If you do want bots, try Timesplitters: Future Perfect, or maybe Super Smash Bros.

Personally, I'm kind of glad the resources to makes bots has been distributed elsewhere.

Don't get me wrong, they were awesome in Perfect Dark, and can be alright for testing maps while you're making them in modern games (CS: S). However, with such widespread accessibility to the internet, as they above poster mentioned...we can find more personal nimrods now :D

But if the game already has a single player aspect that makes heavy use of opponent A.I. then I'm all for the inclusion of bots in the multiplayer aspect since the resources to creating them because extensively less.

the main reason i brought this up is call of duty, i have beaten the game on veteran and my internet connection can be really dodgy sometimes and i would like to be able to have a little kill fest without having to play a mission but also no splitscreen online or in the campaign means that without extra consoles when you have friends or family over you can only play with 4 people which really isnt that fun and i need something i can just kill time with not put in effort playing online.

I like bots. I don't play online, so they were the only reason I bothered to play Perfect Dark Zero's muliplayer modes and Unreal Championship.

I know, it's ridiculous... plus playing with family and other less skilled players is a lot harder without easy bots to whoop up on. I miss bots too. :(

I played a few games of the original Unreal Tournament not long after its release on a 28.8 modem, didn't like the lag, and spent the rest of my time offline, and had an absolute blast playing that game. The advantage was I could always tweak the experience to my liking. These days I don't have a gaming PC, and I haven't bothered with Gold membership for Xbox Live because I don't have the time to get good at any of the games.

The steady removal of bots from games that began last-gen and characterises this gen is a real shame. I often prefer a good old-fashioned split-screen match with my brother or friends, things are just not exciting if there are only 2 or 3 of you in a deathmatch. Plus if the players are unbalanced, as with me and my younger brother, bots are often integral to keeping things fun and preventing domination by one player.

Um... It's a good feature, but the internet has made it obsolete. That's really lame that you have bandwidth limits and all that, but that is more of a problem with your internet and less about the actual game. It's a nice feature to have thrown in, but I have never said, "Dude, I wish I could play with bots instead of real people." unless I wanted to figure out how the game works or had some other problem unrelated to the game.

I miss bots so much. Timesplitters 2 and Smash Bros were so much fun just playing multiplayer with myself or with friends.

I hate the absence of bots in current games.

I absolutely loathe the absense of split-screen gameplay in current games.

It did start with the slow removal of bots from various games due to the Internet, which seemingly has given rise to the idea in developers to start removing split screen multiplayer. Look no further than to stuff like Motorstorm (and now seemingly Burnout Paradise). Why pray tell can you not play with a friend next to you?

Why on earth are you not allowed to play with friends anymore? Seriously. Sure, you may have an online buddy or an Internet pal, heck you may be lucky enough to have an actual friend who has the game too so you can actually play online together... I don't know about you, but I'd like to have my flesh and blood friend sitting right next to me.

Nothing was greater in Street Fighter or Mortal Kombat than turning and going "In yo face punk" after pulling off a great win. Stuff like NBA Jam was great for it too. Then of course you had the Goldeneye's and Perfect Dark's. Those were great for having friends or family over and just duking it out, or much better to my liking helping each other beat a game. Who doesn't have fond memories of taking on Red Falcon in Contra with a friend? Or whooping Shredder with your favourite Turtle combination? Even a couple of years ago with stuff like TimeSplitters and The Warriors.

What's even better though, especially as is the key thing with this thread in FPSs, bots?

Bots were awesome, especially in Perfect Dark. I played that game for hours on end by myself just playing with the bots. Add in some friends, and of course the bots, and you could have great times. But nowadays...

Meh to you! You don't have the Internet? Bah, tough luck.

I understand online is a big deal and a nice feature to have, but even at that only 40% of people with a 360 actually have Xbox Live. And that is considered at the high end. A lot of people with other systems don't even play online much if at all by comparison. A vast majority of people who play games don't even bother with online.

I guess I can deal with bots going absent, but it ultimately shortens down my desire to play the games. However I am not liking the removal of split screen from a lot of games. Offline multiplayer is dying for no justifiable reason.
