I hope those robbers are ready to face enough jail time for doing something like that!

Yeah, I saw this. Not real surprising, I'm sure these thieves will make money. But if you're going to commit a felony that could put you in Prison for 20 years, why do it stealing videogames on such a pitiful scale?
I find it strange that some people are willing to commit a crime just to pocket a bit of money. They must not realize that almost all robbers are caught.
I feel bad for anyone that preordered Black Ops at that Gamestop, as I doubt they'll have enough left for everyone.

Crime in general, really. I think that even in goddamned armed bank robberies, that the average amount stolen is less than $5000. And for every person dealing drugs in the hopes of becoming a rich drug kingpin, most drug dealers don't make much more than minimum wage.
Yeah...it's hard to see why people think it's worth doing that **** compared to what'll happen when their lifestyle catches up to them. Only thing I can really think of is that they never really think they're gonna get caught.

That's a very good question, actually. Either these robbers really wanted that many copies of the game or they were that bored or they just wanted to be famous. Either way, once the cops catch them, there's no turning back for those people. Only way I can see them serving less time in jail is if they cut a plea deal.

The problem is when innercity kids get roped into gangs. They see this rich gang leaders who live like rappers, who talk about growing up in the hood, and having nothing, and they think they can emulate that. Problem is there's usually a tax or tariff system, so the individual ends up peddling drugs on a street corner, with of the dangers and the risk of arrest involved, while the kingpin sits high on the horse collecting "taxes" from his loyal gangmates. It really is a cruel system.

Yeah, but they might not get caught. It all depends on how the crime was commited. Law Enforcement loves to make people believe that they solve all serious crimes, but they actually don't. It's a question of resources, and right now, everyone in spread thin. In a truly frightening statistic, only %36 of homicides were solved in San Diego last year. Yikes!
they stole more than games. its actually super profitable if you think about it. 100 copies of black ops and sell it in bulk to a small gaming store at 20-30 bucks a pop. easy 2-3 grand. then the store flips it for full retail and pockets the remaining 40 bucks ish. both party would come up.How freaking desperate do you have to be to steal games before they come out? I'm quite eager for Gran Turismo 5 but it doesn't mean I'm gonna break in and STEAL it.

Yeah, that's not a widely known statistic, I only know it because I dated a girl who worked in Forensics, and thus many of her friends/co-workers did also.
Thats actually a lot of money if you think about. Retail thats about 6000$, if they sell it in the black market for like 80-100$ they can get 8000$-10000$ profit. I am sure there are desperate crazy fanboy who will pay that price or even higher.
what market are u talking about? im pretty sure these guys are petty thieves and to actually take the time to sell all 100 copies at retail online one by one would take forever. hustlers try to flip hot items quick especially something they stole. trying to get the full 6000 is too time consuming and greedy. sell in volume at lower cost is just as good to cut time.Thats actually a lot of money if you think about. In the end, I just hope they capture these guys. I find it stupid that they had to nab this many copies. I mean, I can see like maybe 3-10 copies for those friends and themselves, but that many?
