Is it just me, or are there no good next gen RPGs coming out until fall?

[QUOTE="ShadowMountain"]I've got a back log of about 20 ps2 rpgs so I'm sortedbrianpoetzel
Â
LOL. me too. I'm currently on tales of legandia and will move on to either rogue galaxy or xenosaga 2.
Â
Honestly I think I will never be rid of this back log. I can only really play LONG games during my 3 month Summer holiday since the rest the year I'm bust with uni and can only handle shorter action games. Last summer I could only complete 3 rpgs interspersed with action games, so at this rate I'll finish them all in about 6 years but that is IF I don't buy any more games and I don't see me doing that any time soon!
Persona III comes out this summer...Outside of that. Looks depressing for the PS2. That kind of looks like the curtain call for it. But if you did miss it...Tales of The Abyss. Probably the best RPG on the PS2.
360 has quite an impressive line up of RPGs. They lack the amount PS2 had...But they have alot of strong developers making them. We should get Eternal Sonota, Blue Dragon, And Mass Effect This year.
Wii...Maybe they have Fire Emblem come outÂ
PS3...Pretty much Negelicable till Summer of the next year at the earliest(WHite Knight)Â
I have got a huge number of games to catch up on the ps2 and PC. And I am buying a PSP.
Then if anything, I might get a gamecube or dreamcast...and catch up on those games.
Â
By that time, we will have the new xbox and ps4, and I will just catch up on the 360/ps3 games. :)Â
I'm gald for a drought I still need to play/finish all my PS2 RPGs and SRPGs like Star Ocean TtEoT; DQ8, Makai Kingdom, KH2, Xenosaga 2&3, Odin Sphere, .Hack//G.U., well you get the point, hell I still have some original PS RPGs that I need to finish. Plus there are still many RPGs that I want but have yet to buy.
Â
*Sigh* So many games so little time.
The RPGs usually take a bit longer to kick in at the start of a generation. Well, the quality RPGs, anyway. Outside of Oblivion, I can't think of one on any on the three current consoles worth playing, and you're right, none at least until the fall. It's just the way of things, I guess. Final Fantasy X didn't make it out for the PS2 until after the system had been out for over a year, and the same goes for Fable and Jade Empire for the Xbox and Tales of Symphonia and Paper Mario: TTYD for the GC.fathoms_basic
yea the fact that the majority of high profile RPGs aren't usually released until a year or more after a console's debut is totally sad for RPG aficionados like me. But, it does make one appreciate Oblivion's hastiness in release and abundance in quality.
Also, I think it's pretty interesting how when looking at the posts in this forum a "good RPG" is obviously a subjective term. For example, I consider myself somewhat of a snob in terms of videogame purchases. In my opinion, a "good RPG" is an engrossing adventure which scores, on average, 8.5 out of ten or more. My gut instinct tells me that I should formulate my own opinions (I do!) but it's hard to spend $50 or usually more on a game that you may not like or may not last you very long.
Reviews very much guide my buying decisions so for me to buy an RPG, or any game for that matter, it has to be well critiqued. I'm just bringing this up because I'm seeing people posting about some PS2 RPGs that they consider awesome, but I would probably never buy them. Interesting stuff. Just goes to show that beauty, or value in this case, is truly in the eye of the beholder.

Well, recent PS2 releases are Odin Sphere, Atelier Iris 3Â and Dawn of Mana, plus Rogue Galaxy isn't that old.
There's still .hack//G.U. vol. 3, Grim Grimoire, Ar Tonelico 2, Growlanser V, Wild Arms V and Soul Nomad. Grim Grimoire is a Vanillaware (Odin Sphere) game so that might have some promise, Soul Nomad is a NIS SRPG so if you're into their previous releases then it might interest you as well and Growlanser games are always good. PS2 lives! Well, for JRPG fanatics anyway...
RPG usually take longer time to develop due to length of the game.
Rarely you see high quality RPGs within first year of launch of a console. After a year, then it slowly starts to pop up.
Pretty much like all past consoles, Once FF game gets released, that's when you will see quality RPGs start coming out.Â
SNES started pumping out RPGs after FFIV
PS started pumping out RPG after FFVII
PS2 started pumping out RPG after FFX
PS3 probably will start pumping out RPG after FFXIIIÂ
