The first time I play a RPG I tend to get the basic models, apparel, weapons, etc. until I understand the concept behind the game. After I play for a little bit I change the dynamic of my character to give me more of a stealthy, long range type but also able to defend myself at close range if need-be.
Definitely the greatsword-wielding, armor-heavy badass who's taking the fights in the frontlines. Maybe occasionally tossing in a little bit of magic, but mostly melee combat. If I do want to mix things up, I'll try a stealth-assassin character, or a pure mage.
Archer/Hunter type.
I like having the chance of making a clean getaway if the battle doesn't go my way. This also gives me options to attack foes far stronger than me if i can gain an environmental advantage. :D
(And usually a female character because i'd much rather stare at a woman's butt all evening)
Im always a good guy, but i guess you could call me the jack of all trades, i haven't really gravitated to one style of fighting, its just whatever suits the moment, and whatever song is on the radio :)
I don't play RPGs that often so usually when i first start them i suck at it for a while. So first playthrough i almost always play some sort of warrior/bruiser type just to get the lay of the land. 2nd playthroughi go for whatever class has the most interesting abilities; usally a mage but sometimes a thief
On my first playthrough of Oblivion I'm playing as a mage and slowly have broaded him to a jack of all trades he's a warrior as well as a sneaky assassin/theif. Â Â
I usually gravitate toward the ranger/stealth type of class. Thinking about my last few RPG playthroughs, I was a ranger in Champions of Norrath, Mordecai in Borderlands, Zero in Borderlands 2, and essentially a "ranger" in Skyrim. And I currently have Boone and ED-E in New Vegas, where I make full use of their perks as a stealthy sniper sort of character.
It's fun to mix it up though. I can get so caught up in my predilections that I miss out on other gameplay styles. So I'll sometimes force myself to play as a tank, etc. I did that in my last Oblivion playthrough. It was nice for a change.
