the only real time strategy game i've ever player before is Star Wars Battlegrounds for pc. Now with Halo Wars and Tom Clancy's End War coming out, im kinda intrigued. i love the halo series and anything tom clancy does is money, but with the rts element, im not sure how they will work out. what do you think? any other rts games like these that you like and think i should try out?

I heartily recommend Command & Conquer 3. C&C is one of the major pillars of RTS gaming. If you enjoy that even a little bit then you should really like Halo Wars and Endwar, since they are more familiar franchises/developers.

Well Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds was based off of the Age of Empires 2 engine, and although I did not like either game, if you enjoyed them, then you'll probably like Rise of Nations, Age of Mythology, and Age of Empires 3 as well. Rise of Nations was easily the best of those three so I'd recommend at lest trying out the demo.

I think anyone and everyone who even thinks they might like the genre should try out Company of Heroes. It really is a triumph of RTS that rewards tactics and smart playing instead of simply massing a single pwnage unit.

Have two squads of riflemen coming in fast? Funnel 'em into an MG's killzone with barbed wire. Got a sniper holed up in a house? A single mortar can pwn 'em.

Overall, it's just a brilliant game of decent realism and tactics (not realistic... but moreso than other RTSs). Just a whole lot of fun.

RTS fans should know this but Halo Wars is being developed by Ensemble Studios the guys who made Age of Empires. So just play any Age of Empires game including Age of Mythology and I'm pretty sure Halo Wars will be similar. Basically, Halo Wars will be Age of Empires in space. Also to note, Star Wars Battlegrounds is so much like Age of Empires and since you already played that, I think that should be enough to give you a general idea what Ensemble Studios style of play is like.

Also, for Tom Clancy I have no idea how that game will be like. I think it might be close to Company of Heroes, World in Conflict, or Command & Conquer 3. So any of these war type of games will probably be good practice until End War comes out. That's what I'd play.

It's getting old now, but if you've ever played WoW, I would recommend Warcraft 3, for around $20 you can get the battlechest, which includes Warcraft 3, Warcraft 3: The Frozen Throne, and strategy guides for both.

If you liked battlegrounds, then you should definitely check out Star Wars: Age of Empires...I love it.
