Rumor: Metal Gear 3 coming to the PSP

With the release of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots upon us, speculation surfaces this morning that Konami may be ready to unveil a new Metal Gear title for the PlayStation Portable (PSP) at this year's E3.

The rumor comes from Russian site StarSniper, which was down at the time of this writing. However, a member on the PlayStation.com forums dropped some information about the supposed upcoming PSP title.

"The game is titled Metal Gear 3: Revolver Ocelot and it takes place between MGS: Portable Ops and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake. It will feature some scenes from the original Metal Gear."

"The game uses a recruitment system similar to MGS:PO and the main character is Revolver Ocelot, looking similar to both MGS3 and MGS1. Big Boss is not a playable character, but appears sometimes during the cut scenes supervising the construction of outer heaven."

More details will reportedly be revealed at E3.

Well what do you think about this? I probably keep a eye on this game if it true.

Was it just me, but was anyone else a bit dissapointed with Por-Ops?

I love the MGS series, but i just didn't really enjoy Por-Ops that much, the controls where dodgy, the radar system was overly-complicated and i wasn't too keep on the mission-based system ether!

Is there something wrong with me?

MGS: PO was amazing and one of the best games PSP can offer. i enjoyed it alot with new features and the controls were the same as MGS3, just without R2-L2 it was abit harder to get used to it but after you are done with learning curve, its just another excellent MGS game

I'm glad it was clarified in the original post's quote that what is meant is indeed Metal Gear 3 and not Metal Gear Solid 3. I get incredibly annoyed when people drop the "Solid" from the title and think what's left means the same thing. WRONG! News flash: there were two canon Metal Gear games before Metal Gear Solid, and there is also an unnumbered canon entry already on the PSP. MGS4, if numbered with respect to the entire series, would be Metal Gear 7.

Um... sorry for the rant. :P

I'd really like all the canon Metal Gears to be released on Sony's consoles. So far, Portable Ops is the only one unplayable on the PS3. This fact is aggravating. I say if one's going to be released on the PSP, it also needs to get the Liberty City Stories treatment and go to the console afterward.

Yeah, I suppose so. But now I am wondering how they'd put a huge game like MGS for XBLA, especially with the size limit.
