It usually comes down to Resident Evil or Silent Hill. However I say, Dino Crisis, when I saw a dino running at me, I knew it was it because of the horrible controls.

Answering the topic title:

I would say upcoming Sadness, based on it's setting, style story and content.

I don't think I can come up with just one, but the three that stick out the most for me are:

Silent Hill (PS1) -- This game's setting, one of being stuck in a town that itself almost seemed both dead and alive, but with no real ability to hide because of an exacting fatherly need to find your daughter. It was a very emotional game for me.

Clock Tower (PS1) and also Clock Tower: First Fear SNES) -- These games were the closest I've come to being on the edge of my seat. Having a serial killer with a giant pair of garden sheers chasing after you, and popping up when you least expect it is one of the most pulse-racing gaming experiences I've ever had, especially considering that you can't easily fight him and in most cases just have to go as fast as you can to a hiding place and hope he doesn't find you.

Siren (PS2) -- Chess playing zombies that you can't kill, just hide from, and which you have to carefully observe through their own eyes while thinking through a path to escape while avoiding their detection. It's one of my longest and most fearful gaming experiencesa ever.

I have two in mind that gave me quite a scare when I first played it, but to be honest I always played it at night with the light turn off so it might be different if I played it during the day.

My first choice is Resident Evil Remake, being the first one I played in the series getting used to the control was quite hard and really gave me a scare during every zombie encounters. I am not a big fan of spider so when I first encounter the giant spider(boss) I was freaked out, another enemy that was disturbing was Trevor knowing you can't do anything to her was quite brutal.

My second one is Doom, the atmosphere in this game is pretty scary. Enemies popping out of the corner gave the elements of surprised to me which I didn't like at all. Plus the graphic was just too detail that it look so real to me.

There seems to be same topic every week.

and every week the answer is always the same.

If you have played Fatal Frame, that's the answer you give whenever people ask this topic.

If not, answer starts to vary.

Silent Hill (The original) because I was really young when I played it and the monsters used to scare me. That abandoned wheelchair in the alley at the beginning used to freak me out all of the time and so did the bleeping the radar did when an enemy was near-by.

Doom 3: It was mainly about jumps, but having to switch from the flashlight to the gun is ridiculous. "Oh I see him in the corner over there. All right, just pull out the machinegun and... Ah, crap where is he. [Pull out flashlight] Oh, he's right in front of me."

Silent Hill 2: This game was just demented. Watching Pyramid head supposebly rape a couple of Mannequins was enough to make my skin crawl.

F.E.A.R.: This game reminded me a lot of the movies: The Ring and The Grudge. Just seeing Alma was creepy enough, but seeing her naked at the end and chasing you was just really creepy. I turned the game off once, it was so creepy.
