What are some of the scariest experiences you've had in gaming, or things that generally scare you?

I don't know why, but in tons of horror games, I've always been scared ****less of the BATHROOMS.

WHY IS IT ALWAYS THE BATHROOMS?

I always expect something crazy is going to happen in the bathrooms, but in most cases there never is. In Silent Hill (2 or 3, cant remember), I remember seeing the bloody toilet and being like OH GOD! But fortunately nothing messed up ever popped out.

Among all though, the scariest bathroom moment for me...Fear 2. The lights were all flickering and you know there's crazy stuff going on, so I remembering taking a few deep breaths before opening the door and bracing myself.

Lastly, in Stalker, those invisible dudes creeped me out so badly, the only enemy in the game I actually hide in a corner and refuse to blink in order to not get caught off guard and jump.

When I opened the door with the ghost in it in the The Gateway Inn in Sadrith Mora in Morrowind, my heart raced when I looked into its eyes. I was hesitant to ever open it again, until I did the quest to rid of it.

UnfortunatelyI don't ever get scared when playing games. I wish I did though. At the most I get startled when something pops out unexpectedly or I turn around and see something right behind me that I didn't know was there.

i get scared easily, thats why i never play horror games, even though i am dying to play deadspace 2 and fear 3, but to answer your question my personal scariest moment was in uncharted drake's fortune, i guess i wasnt expecting any creepy stuff since its an action adventure game, but the stage where drake has to defend those mutant things in that dark building was horrifying for me, i died a lot coz i was scared **** and i was spraying all over and quickly ran out of ammo, i never played that game again even though i wanted to get a platinum lolz.

For me, it was two things...

1. those ****ing REDEADS. Sweet Jeshus, they were scary. I don't exactly know why, but whenever I played wind waker as a kid, I did everything I could to make sure they didn't scream, bombs, running, and if they screamed, I would be terrified. I would actually freeze up in real life... ironic, huh?I would then proceed to run awayt from them, and bomb their sorry arses off.

2. This one room in Paper Mario: TTYD. Near the end of the game, behind the thousand-year-door, there was this huge area with a lake. You fought the purple-ghost people just beyond it, I think. You could take a pipe in the background into this one tower.. it was totally empty. Nobody in it. Wierd, ghostly puzzles. Screams from far away. General creepy atmosphere. I was alone in the house, the lights were off, and it was dark outside. I was so creeped out, I had to call my dad inside and make me some popcorn. :P Seriously.

Same with me, but the bathrooms man, the bathrooms.. LOL

In Stalker those invisible guys are jump out scares to me, because you'll be walking in the dark, turn slightly and BLARRGH this guy will be in your face.

I envy the people who get scared due to psychological horror aspects/environments, like all of Silent Hill etc. (minus the bathrooms of course), mutant babies don't make my blood curl or anything, it's odd how seeing deformed babies feels completely normal to me.

Dude, you have NO IDEA what it was like with Ocarina of time. I was probably in like grade 2 when that game was out.

Going into the graveyard grotto and seeing (the even more ef-d up versions of Re-deads, WW looked like cartoon pirates) was super creepy. They'd walk so slow towards you with their shrivelled bodies while you anticipate getting humped...good times lol Plus they'd make those moaning noises, man, remembering these things is so nostalgic lol.

I'm glad I got to start with Ocarina of Time and not Wind Waker

I totally agree with you two. I freaked out so much in Ocarina of Time. Of course, the first time I played was off a friends game when Link was an adult and in the Temple of Time. Of course I ran right out and into the marketplace to be killed by a re-dead. The second time I ran out, killed it, and then had the others swarm me. That was not a good experience. Wind Wakers look very odd, like the head got stretched out or something. Made things a lot easier then. Plus, after you watch the re-deads dance in Majora's Mask, it helps get over how scary they are.

I don't get scared really, but I don't play a lot of games where there is a horror aspect. I'd love to try Dead Space but don't think I could deal with it. I'd probably throw the controller when one jumped out of no where and started attacking.

I think the thing that scares me the most is when the character starts walking down a hall and you KNOW that something is going to jump out and attack, yet you have to go anyway. I normally pause and go get something to eat then come back and do it. Other than that, I think I just get startled and either die or go into a button mashing panic state. Either way can be fun to watch I hear.

LOL, why do I not remember that when I played WW all those years ago? So many awesome little secrets/easter eggs and tiny attention to details in that game. I don't know why I've beat OoT 100+ times, but MM only once or twice (despite being pretty amazed at MM when it first game out. Maybe the more frustrating areas like the last few temples/needing to do things at a specific time prevented me from getting the urge to replay)

there were some really great moments in re4 that went beyond mere jump scares. one of my favorites was in the village during the thunder storm a night. sometimes you cant see more than a few feet in front of you, but you can hear wolves nearby. then lightning flashes for a second and you know they are right there, but it fades all too quickly and youre left with just the information that they are there but not enough awareness to spot them in the dark. its a really great implementation of the confined feeling that used to be forced by cheap camera angles in past RE games, but re4 justifies it so naturally that it doesnt feel like something artificially put on the player by the developer.

Fatal Frame 1 - Whenever I learned more about the rituals that were held in that house I got goosebumps. That's just too sick for me.

In Fear Effect I didn't even last until after the opening sequence. But well, I was 12 when a friend brought that game over, 2 or 3 years later that probably would have been nothing.

Personally the scariest of Ocarina of Time was the graveyard with that dude walking around at night.

Generally I do not like being chased, especially when you are pretty much powerless. For example when you are being chased in RE4 when you played as that girl (Ashley?).

Let's see... When I was 4 my sister let me play Resident Evil... That toughened me up for gaming later in life; only 2 games have really scared me since.

The first was a little game called Dementium. And it's a DS game if you haven't heard of it. The first few levels did a good job of making me crap myself; demon things bursting out of doors unexpectedly and screaming banshee things flying at me whenever I got to a corridoor.

And the only Silent Hill game I've played, Origins. Apparently it's not as good as the rest of the series so I want them. It's really good at creating a horror atmosphere. Scraping noises as you walk misty allyways, the dark otherworld the soundtrack. I thought it was great.

These days I think it's cute how games like Dead Space try to be scary when they just startle once every hour. Even let my nephew play it. Oh the irony.

I find hospitals to be quite scary as well. Especially, when you start hearing noises. Though, there aren't too many games with hospitals in them.

forgot to mention the empty school near megaton in fallout 3, really creepy since its one of the first building u raid, but after that almost all abandon buildings have the same feeling, so it kinda becomes less scary after that.

The most scared ive been lately was probably in the RE5 ad-on (the one with Chris and Jill). Whenever you went in some shallow water sometimes these bodies would suddenly grab your legs so you couldn't move, and it scared the hell out of me!

I can't really get scared of a videogame, because it's hard for me to put myself into the videogame as a character. I even try to play Resident Evil 4/Silent Hill at 10:00 PM, and it just doesn't do it for me..

Thinking outside the box a little, the scariest moment in a video game for me was when I thought I'd got stuck on Wii Play. It was on the second mini-game Find Mii, where you have to pick out specific Miis from a crowd. It was all going fine until Level 6 when you have to "Find 2 odd Miis out". I couldn't find them. The timer ran out and I had to start again. I got back to that level and again I couldn't find them. I failed again and again and again. I was starting to panic as the reality dawned; "Oh my God, I'm stuck on Wii Play! I'm not going to be able to unlock any of the other games. The shame of it!" I was trying to keep calm and figure it out. Even though GameFAQs was just a click away, I could not go there. There was no way I was going to resort to a guide for Wii Play. How could I ever live with myself? I imagined the cruel taunts; "Hey look, there goes that hardcore gamer who got stuck on Wii Play."

Finally, after what seemed like an eternity, I figured it out. Needless to say the relief was huge. I noticed that the crowd of Miis were moving their heads from side to side (as if watching a tennis match), but two of them are moving their heads in the opposite direction to the others. Thank God for that! (I had actually already noticed that they were moving their heads, but for some reason I didn't think it was relevant). But anyway, while the crisis was averted, it was one hell of a scary moment.

Resident Evil 2, when the dog breaks through the window.

F.E.A.R. when your minding your own buisness just climbing up a ladder, get to the top and look up, and out of no where alma decides to jump out and try to eat your face! That was so awesome...

Those are the two scary moments that come to mind.

I was playing Fallout 3 the other night and it was dead quite in the house. I was strolling through the sewers where the Mirelurks are and as an optional objective I wasn't supposed to kill them so I'm running through this dark ass series of corridors with giant crab men chasing me and jumping out at every turn with the only thing making me feel safe being the light from my Pip-boy until I finally finish the objective. That was the first time a game has spooked me in a long time.
