I have been a huge fan of horror games for most of my life. When Resident Evil 1 came out on the PS that was the first time I truly felt scared from playing a game. It's been over a decade and I still remember the face of the very first zombie as well as those dogs jumping out of the window. Although that game doesn't scare me anymore, I can still remember the feeling it gave me (that tense, nervous, and anxious feeling). I love it when a game can successfully scare their audience. Anyway, since everyone is scared of different things (clowns, graves, balloons, yellow tape, etc.), I want to know what scares you. What is the scariest game you've ever played (or played recently)? DDiddy42i agree but sadly the new resident evil games aren't as scary like resident evil 4 and 5. but you should check out fatal frame very scary.
Every Siren game is fricking scary (particularly Blood Curse), Clock Tower is also very scary, just that damn chase music *shivers*. Silent Hill 3 creeped me out, particularly on a scene involving a mannequin room, although I also jumped twice in Silent Hill 1. And lets not forget Fatal Frame 1-3 and Eternal Darkness, those games are creepy as hell.
For me, Condemned : Criminal Origins, Fatal Frame and The ThingTreflis
Condemned is very creepy. You have very limited bullets and it''s always really dark. Resident Evil 4 isn't very scary but it has a really good atmosphere.
For me, Condemned : Criminal Origins, Fatal Frame and The ThingTreflisOh my gosh The Thing was so damn good
Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth is really atmospheric and creepy.muthsera666^^^Yes. Last night I nearly crapped my pants playing that game. Terribly scary. The only others that are scarier are S.T.A.L.K.E.R., and Penumbra Overture (I couldn't finish either).
Resident Evil was good for the "boo!" scares, the Fatal Frame series and the Silent Hill series(1 and 3 in particular), Silent Hill 2's plot was rather disturbing PLUS the environment. Condemned had a good creepy atmosphere as well.
For lesser known titles I would also recommend Haunted Grounds or Kuon 2 for the PS2.

Just moving through the Zone and hearing dogs barking in the distance while your Geiger starts counting rads. *Shivers*
For me, Condemned : Criminal Origins, Fatal Frame and The ThingTreflisi agree with Fatal frame.. :D.. we need another Fatal frame, and with HD graphics please.. :)
Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth (little dead girls in the sewers)
Dead Space (little "WTF is that" in the sewers) :o
Maybe not by todays standards, but at release and on first play through, it HAS to be Silent Hill on PsX. The atmosphere, the tension, the enemies, it was all so perfectly put together. The whole scenario of really not knowing what the fluff was going on at any one time really added to the feeling of sheer dissorientation. At any point the game could take you from the light world to the twisted other world without warning, characters could live or die based on your decisions, Ammo was scarce and you spent most of the game fleeing these hidious things in the dark. Also made very good use of the graphical limitations of the PsX with fog, darkness and grainy, dirty textures utilising the low resolution and crap draw distance offered by the PsX. Takes a special kind of developer to turn a technical shortcoming into the series best asset
