School Shooter Mod Raises Controversy

Recently in the news there has been controversy around a modification of Half-life 2 by the name School Shooter: North American Tour 2012. The principle of the game sounds much like its name. Go around a school, and kill people unil eventually the police arrive. However, it has recently been removed from many sites, though it can still be found. Anybody got any opinions?

I love the fact everyone in the game is looks like a grown adult, and just stand around mindlessly as they get shot.

Why would anyone create a school shooter Mod? :?

ok so at first I thought wow video games finally are guilty of something worth pointing out....Then I watched the video. And wow the media continues to amaze me with their stupidity.

It's disturbing in general. Stuff like that shouldn't be created or even made available, at least those kinds of mods.

Now don't get me wrong here, I don't agree with the media's usual sensationalistic take on violence in games... but come on. This really is pretty distasteful. I really don't understand what the creator(s) was going for here. Controversy? Cry for attention? Blatant trolling?

In the end, all they're going to accomplish with this fiasco is another black mark on the medium. Hooray.

Wow the AI suuucks. I wouldn't play i just because it technologically it's a bad game, not just because of the whole school shooter thing.

You really need to stretch your imagination to even associatet what the mod actually is and the name of the mod. It's just as dumb as renaming Silent Hill 1 the school shooter of the millenium. If you play violent video games to begin with, I can't see how you can object against this when the mod isn't any worse than shooting random civilians in random fps or GTA. Teenagers aren't more worth than adults, human value is all equal.

Is anyone suprised that school shooting happens? High schools are one of the cruelest places on earth from my experince as a part time teacher.

It looks like he's shooting up more of mental assylumn, which would actually be perfectly fine with the media.

Agreed. But the only videos out now are alpha gameplay. Not even close to finished.

As for the controversy, I say **** it. I'll play this just because it looks interesting.

True, the only reason I even put a graphic warning on the gameplay video was soley because "graphic content" was mentioned in that video. In words it sounds disturbing, but all it really takes is that twenty-seven second video to show that this game's underlying message is so weak that should even be put up for debate, yet the media decides to make a big deal out of it. More disturbing was the fact that whoever was doing the video is actually quite racist. :|
