I am trying to figure out the name of a game I played when I was a kid. I can only assume it was for SNES (as that was the most advanced Nintendo system I owned). There was a series of worlds, including a world made of clouds, a kind of beaver-dam-like world (with beavers as characters, obviously), etc. You were able to navigate around the world (enter houses, shops, etc.) I KNOW it was not a Zelda game, nor was it the Magical Quest starring Mickey Mouse. If anyone has any suggestions, they would be greatly appreciated. I know the description is quite obscure but I figure someone else had to have played the game too.

Super Mario RPG? That sounds like Moleville and Nimbus Land(two of the towns in the game).

I agree that it could be super mario RPG. If not, can you remember what type of gameplay it had (turn based, action, platforming, etc.) :?
