Dreamcast and sega gamegear i guess were not big enough failures for sega. Apparently Sega is planning on releasing the "Sega Vision" this year which will

be able video games, a music and movie player, and a TV tuner. This will be a portable device and is "supposed" to rival the psp and ds.

http://gizmodo.com/5059175/sega-returning-to-the-hardware-biz-with-vision-pmp-for-2009 i'm not sure if that even counts. Going into 2009, Sega's looking pretty darn good as a publisher/dev. No reason to get back into hardware.

I wouldn't mind at all if Sega went back into hardware. The Dreamcast was awesome, the Saturn had potential, and the Genesis was great. But, this? I'd scrap it.

The Saturn was hard to program games for. I don't think there was a game that used the full power of the Saturn, or close to it. If a game was made for the Saturn today, it would probably be the best looking game on it.

To this day, the Saturn still has a great library of AAA exclusives.

Why should we have to find sources for your post?

It isn't his responsibility to look up every unsubstantiated thing that gets posted. If you make a thread, it is always nice to let people know you heard it from a real source.

sega wouldnt be able to survive if they made their own hardware bro. they would have no flagship characters at all. i think nintendo owns a part of sega and sonic is losing his flare and sega has been turning out some crappy games lately with the sonic label on them.. im looking at you mario and sonic at the olympics... and sega would have to make some AAAA titles for that sega vision thing u were talking about. i just dont see it working out too well for them

a Dreamcast 2 would be better idea, but rather then try now, they should wait until next gen starts cause the race right now is pretty much decided

What matters most I think is cost. How much will this thing be if it was true? $200? $300? $400!? Would Sega really make more money releasing Sonic and Sega-only games on this new portable device than releasing software for the DS/PSP? I think not, especially since Phantasy Star Portable is doing well in Japan and Sonic games always sell pretty well on handhelds. Sega would be biting off more than they can chew if you ask me. Who'd pay $300 for a portable device just to play Sonic? I'd rather pay $150 to play New Super Mario, Mario Kart DS, and Nintendo games on the DS. I seriously think if this happened it'd end up as a portable Dreamcast where all you play is Dreamcast ports.

I'm not sure what sega is getting at, but i think if this new portable offers good features and a decent price it could do well. Sega is indeed very late at stepping back up in the hardware department, but maybe if this does well we'd probably see a console in the near future?

maybe this is a start of making a new console they are just testing the pulse, who knows SEGA isnt doing preticulerly great but they're doing alright

plus if they do release this handheld its survival would be based on cool first party games and the price if it was more that 150$ then i dont think am gonna get one

Yeah... in Japan.

Biggest reason why Saturn failed was because their games didn't make it to the States.
