I've read lots of reviews on how Symphony of the Night and Doom on Saturn had slow down. My solution to this was to slap in a 1 meg or 4 meg cart. I love my Saturn, have it hooked up to my hdtv, and realise it was ahead of its time with 2 processors. Just look at the leaked Saturn Shenmue video and you'll realise, the problem was never the hardware, it was sloppy programing. What it accomplised with Shenmue, Playstation one could never do (facial expressions, the amount of detail, and complete 3d world). I've played every version os Sotn and Saturn is the best with all the extras plus the six button controller.

Are there any more Saturn lovers out there?

Iron Storm, Winning Post, Guardian Heroes, and many many more loved titles. Not to mention was the first system I owned that went online and played against others (excluding pc).

Wow that's insane, I never knew Shenmue was originally developed for the Saturn. I just looked up some videos on youtube and DAMN those gameplay movies are impressive. Granted the framerates looked like crap in some places from what I saw, but the level of detail is astounding for a fifth generation game. No wonder the development costs for Shenmue were so high, they were making a sixth generation game for a fifth generation console and then they had to go back and remake the game again for a different system. It's a shame the Saturn died as early as it did, it was one hell of a system :(

Shenmue 1 and 2 were rummored to be finished for the Saturn. The seen in the video clip where he's running through a forest is the end of part 1, while scenes in china are from part 2. That game would have cemented Saturn in gaming history.

You can't just insert a RAM cart to eliminate slowdown or improve performance in games. It doesn't work like that. Outside of minor exceptions, games that Support RAM carts won't even boot without the proper RAM cart inserted. You can't also use a 4MB cart for games that require a 1MB one.

In the case of Dracula X. The slowdown and lack of transparency effects was because of a very poor translation work by Konami Nagoya. There was really no need to use a RAM cart to make the game superior to the Playstation version. But Konami Nagoya opted instead by using the original Playstation code for porting the game to the Saturn, and so they didn't took advantage of the vastly superior Saturn 2D capabilities.

Also the Shenmue Saturn version video wasn't leaked. It came as an extra with Shenmue II on the Dreamcast and Xbox.

The Saturn was about Segata Sanshiro and Dragon Force.

Two great things that didn't go together, but were so classy that they have never been replicated.

Society would benefit by the return of both.

i think the saturn was good, i recently got one i own 4 games i found one today lol and it was need for speed 1 , i was shocked actually, it only costed me 2 and change, they had 1 more game i didnt already have that was madden 97 , i thinik i should have grabed it ,

its hard to come by these days,

for what i have, im impressed, though i wished they would still sell all the old stuff,

alot of the older games are funner then the current ones, i can guarantee you that if this gen were to end riht now this would be the worst lol ,

The ram cart worked for me. I know it wont work for every game, but you never know. Doom and SOTN run better for me on my saturn with the cart in. I'm happy :-)

No they don't. You might think they do, but RAM carts don't do absolutely anything for games that don't support them. The hardware doesn't draw any extra RAM for itself unless the software requests it.

That's like saying FMVs in games will look better with a MPEG cart inserted, it makes no sense.

None of those games support any RAM cart. The RAM cart wasn't even released overseas for it to be supported by any western games like Doom.

Furthermore, the slowdown and load times in the Saturn version of Dracula X are design flaws imbued in the game's code. It is not something that you could improve or fix with anything.

Uh...wasn't the game only released in Japan? I'm guessing you mean translation to the Saturn, in which case you should use the word transition. If not, be prepared to have people get pissed at you, thinking that SotN was released in America for the Saturn :P.

I wouldn't call myself a "Saturn lover", but I recognize it as a great system and I do appreciate it.

Symphony of the Night and Duke Nukem on Xbox Live prompted me to hook up my Saturn, and I'm lovin it! They don't make games like that anymore.
