Shenmue is a very slow paced, cinematic adventure game with a plot centered around martial arts/revenge and character development. I knew this before getting into it, and i loved the game. Shenmue II is great, if you know what you're getting into, and if you actually want to get into it. The game is very unique.
Now, on the other hand, Ocarina of Time is a painfully traditional action-adventure, that has ben surpassed tenfold countless times. I'll take the Prince of Persia trilogy and Tomb Raider: Anniversary over it any time of the week.
OoT has set a new standart for adventures, on the other side Shenmue (great game though) did nothing. So there's no contest. Very dumb topic, not really surprising, here are usually more dumb people than intelligent ones. Lol

That's a pretty bizarre comparison... I don't remember POP or TR having towns, villages, open worlds, RPG elements, etc. The Prince of Persia trilogy and Tomb Raider: Anniversary have more in common with Mario than they do with Zelda.

The vast majority of the dumb people on Legacy Platforms are Another48Hours alt accounts.
Shenmue was very influential in its own way. It was a pioneer in 3D urban sandbox gaming, persistent open-world environments, real-time weather effects, believable NPC's with their own lives and schedules, kick-started the push for realism in gaming, and, uh, gave us QTE's.OoT has set a new standart for adventures, on the other side Shenmue (great game though) did nothing. All of them belong in the traditional action-adventure genre. Emphasis on exploration and puzzle solving, with a sizable sprinkle of combat. Platforming is also very strong in those two, not as strong in LoZ by a long shot, but it does take a back seat to exploration and puzzle solving.

To me, the original Tomb Raider and The Sands of Time trilogy are platformers, first and foremost. They do involve a lot of puzzle-solving, but most of those puzzles require platforming. In other words, they're like puzzle platformers. They both also involve exploration, but a lot of that exploration had a linear progression through levels (though somewhat Metroidvania like) rather than the more open-world RPG style exploration of Zelda. They do have similarities to the dungeon segments of Zelda, but that's where I'd draw the line. But yes, they're all technically action-adventures, but the POP & TR school of action-adventure is very different from the Zelda school of action-adventure, much like how Metal Gear and Resident Evil belong to two different schools of action-adventure game design.
Shenmue wins on art, story, graphics (for its time), originality, characters, combat gameplay, length of game, hell even music. And I love OoT, so trust me, that's not an easy comparison to make, especially regarding music.
If you vote OoT, you either never played Shenmue 2 (all the way through!), or you're not a fan of slow paced games.
Ocarina Of Time. I was obsessed with this game and I still am. With that said, I would go with ocarina of time because it was so influential and it is a masterpeice
Although it's an odd comparison, between the two I'd have to go with Shenmue II. I didn't play OOT when it was new and trying it out for the first time many years later I found it difficult to get into. Slow overland travel and ambiguous quest objectives left me wandering around a lot more than I would have liked.
Although Shenmue is dead, Yakuza goes a long way towards filling that gap.

Poll numbers are around 60 almost. It's a very dificult answer because Ocarina of Time is a great game, but Shenmue II is a masterpiece!KyoJacksonWelcome to Gamestop.
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is a nice game and all, but Shenmue II is my favorite game of all time and most replayed too.

I think both games are amongst the best of all times, but Shenmue 2 is my favorite game of all times. There was nothing that came close to giving the same package of emotions and giving that vibe of being a normal guy exploring lands very far from home and very different, all by himself, in the 80s, meeting people there, doing all kinds of things - it felt like you were there but there were things in this game you could do, that you'd love to do in reality but you wouldn't, because it's real life. Such as knock on random person's door in Japan, to find out there's an old grandma living there, or a cool chick, and you could just hear their story or ask about whatever. Kinda like travelling in Japan/Hong Kong/China in their prime and having the best adventures there. And I played that game probably 7 years after it came out, I wonder how awesome it must have been to play it soon after it was released - at that time the graphics and realism were probably mouth dropping. I also love the fact that there was no such thing as "quest" - it resembled real life. You could be asked to do something and just did it, or knew you had to do it. Like in real life - to me it's the only game that doesn't feel like it's limited by silly things that games are usually limited by - you don't expect it to behave like a game, more like life, which is unusual. You can also explore totally new things even after 10 playtroughs, each is different - there are totally different random things happening at different places at the same time, so you can't be in both in one playthrough. That's really amazing about this game - especially since now games are made in a cheap way that you don't miss any single cutscene on your playthrough, so you know there's nothing more to it after you played it. That's not Shenmue though, it's truly an amazing game and the only one in its kind.
Ocarina of Time was awesome back in the day, even though I only played the remake on the 3DS but for today's standard's the game feels a bit dated and there's a lot of games that play the same way.
Shenmue on other hand, even though already passed 13~14 years still looks awesome and there's no game out there that plays a-like.

shenmue 2 is the best videogame I've eve rplayed and fear may ever play(unless shenmue 3)
I suggest people who want to know why it's so great to read my review that covers it all

I'm just incredibly glad to see it's winning in this poll. shenmue 2 doesn't get enough recognition while ocarina of time gets far too much and it's not that great of a game imo.

That review is WAY too fanboyish to really be helpful to anybody.
I mean, it's a great game and everything, but good lord...

Definitely. I mean, I don't doubt that Shenmue 2 could win the poll legitimately, but it's pretty obvious the usual suspect is creating new alt accounts. It's kind of sad, but also hilarious that that certain person has nothing better to do.
