shooter games are in no way realistic. because if you get shot in real life, you usually bleed and lose health over time. maybe they should have your health go down little by little after you get shot or at first, your armor is decreased. like in perfect dark zero. i just think that would totally change the way you think while playing. anyone else agree?

I'd rather games be less like real life and more of a get away; plus, if games were too much like real life, then I really wouldn't be interested in playing them.

This. I prefer a clear line of differentiation between virtual reality and reality. Besides, a lot of the war games already do what the TC wants. In many war games, you can only take one or two hits before dying. Though, the health regenerates after a bit in some of them.

Realism and fun don't necessarily go hand in hand. I'd rather have a game feature fast paced, exciting fire fights than plodding, ultra realistic ones.

No, shooters are not terribly realistic, and one that was probably wouldn't be very much fun to play.

health in mgs games drains after you get shot until you put a bandage over it. i guess mgs is the most realistic gaming series ever...

No, you continue playing as a you fill out all the insurance paper work at the hospital, wait int he ER to be seen while your wife screams at you for taking on such a stupid assignment, get patched up by a surgeon, and then go home for a night's rest. Then you have to play a month long side-mission of recovery where you change your bandages, take pain killers, go to physical therapy, pay hospital bills, and all that jazz each day. Then you finally get your release papers from your doctor and report back for duty, only to get shot again 2 minutes into the mission so you get to do the recovery side-quest all over again. :P

Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth had some things like that, though it wasn't really an FPS. You can break bones, where you then have to splint them. You have to bandage wounds, and you can take morphine to help the pain. Unlimited morphine, actually...

Like RK-Mara said, you sound like you would like S.T.A.L.K.E.R. You need to eat, take medication for radiation poisoning, and bandage wounds so that you don't bleed to death. Bandages won't heal you either, you need Med kits for that. Also if you plan on sprinting somewhere you won't be able to for long, and will need to use an Energy drink to restore your stamina.

There are multiple ammo types for weapons, some with better armor piercing capabilities and ranges than others. Your guns also tend to jam, and you'll need to replace them often as they'll wear down the more you use them, the same goes for your armor. Also don't plan on taking very many hits either, because it'll only take a few shots from an enemy for you to die.

So if you've got a decent enough PC, I'd recommend S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl, and if you enjoyed that S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky. Of course they aren't meant to be the most realistic FPS games ever (and certainly aren't in many aspects) but it sounds like you'd enjoy them.

I think that playing Rainbox Six: Vegas on the 'realistic' setting is pretty realistic. One or two shots and you're dead. (one headshot=death) However, if you can get out of the line of fire it does have that regeneration thing. But I've found I play the game completely differently (more cautiously) because of this. And it's taking me forever to get through it because I get killed a lot. But it's awesome.

In my opinion, the gamer chooses the game. If he want a fast paced game, then fast regeneration is the key. If the realistic is the key, then it mean´s a much slow paced game. For me, i prefer a faster fps game.

There used to be this old WW2 mod for UT99 called "The Third Reich" that designed for realism over gameplay. After a few beta version of integrating more and more realism, it simply became boring. You'd get shot in the leg, and then would be forced to crawl around while you bled to death over a few minutes. Realistic? Yes. Fun? Not one iota. I guess what I'm saying is it's nice when games can integrate some realism that is still fun, but integrating things just for realism's sake is not.

I'm pretty sure in real life there is no spawn option either. So you want a game where when you die you can't play it anymore?

Realism games. Hmm. The Perfect realism game is the one that finds the perfect balance between Arcade game play and Realistic situations. i.e. CoD: 4 Found the perfect balance, Hardcore Mode is pretty damn realistic. But if your looking for "other" types of realism (the type that IS real for games but for Real Life) then try Far Cry 2.

I think the original Resident Evils were actually the most realistic in terms of "damage systems"

Hear me out, haha...

Cause look- you take like4-5 bites, then you die, you can only take a few hits, be it being mauled or melee'd/ grabbed/smashed.

Resident Evil's setting isnt exactly real life material, but I think the damage system is one of the most realistic in games.

(not Re4-Re5)

If you want a semi-realistic shooter, go play Rainbow Six or Ghost Recon. I prefer games to be an escape from reality myself.

Maybe in a super-realistic game, if you get shot once, you gradually lose health until you get medical aid. But in a fast-paced game like CoD or something, that would be a massive pain in the neck. Also, I think games really should start emulating the trauma of losing a limb more. If you lose a limb, 99% chance that you'll die unless you get IMMEDIATE medical attention...like a tourniquet applied to the lost limb. If you didn't, you'd go into shock and then succumb to blood loss.

Still, that doesn't mean it was 100% realistic. The military uses a version of Full Spectrum Warrior for training as well.

I think I would advise checking out STALKER aswell, but download "Oblivion Lost" for it... It is not so realistic that itll Pull your teeth out, but you do need to bandage, eat, sleep and have a limited amount of items you can carry (based on weight tho)

When talking about the Far cry games, I would say the first one was the better one...

CoD4 and CSS I wouldnt call remotely realistic (except thier weapon skins and envioments are regognicable)

sadly there were an old Multiplayer game I think would be appealing, AHL (based of AQ2) you had to bandage, bullets were VERY lethal (thank god for poor marksmen). It strived after "movie realism" and likely the best multiplayer game I ever playied

For crap sake. WHY do people want realistic games? At all??? I was under the impression the ENTIRE idea of games was to escape reality and do something crazy and nonsensical and most importantly, fun.

Who freakin cares if the gun youre shooting isnt the real color or doesnt have enough kick to it...seriously just give me power ups, ninja swords,RPGs, and somethin to blow up! I dont want a game where the graphics are so good i can see the hair on my squadmates buttcrack when he bends over to pick up a gun. I dont want to get tired after 5 secs of sprinting, i want to run at ninja speed and rip a donkeys head off while doing it.

NEXT MONTH RELEASE FOR XBOX/PS3/PSP/DS/PC :

THE SUPER FANTASTIC WORLD OF POVERTY!!!!

Drive a car to work at 7am! Drink some coffay! Buy some groceries! Eat a stale hamburger!

YAY!!! REALISM!!!
