Should I buy the previous intsallments of inFamous, Mass Effect, and Uncharted so I wont be totally lost in the story? If so, which ones because I wouldnt be looking forward to playing 7 games to just get caught up in they're stories lol but these games look so promising and I want to jump in the franchise but not while im asking myself the whole time who the hell is this and wtf is going on haha.

I'd say Infamous has a bit more story than Uncharted... at least, it's more reliant on story in any case.

So why not just get them all? Where's the logic in starting midway through a series instead of at the beginning? Really now.

Definitely get Mass Effect 1. Not only it is the better role playing game, but it will help you with understanding the overall story and some of the decisions you made in ME1 will transfer to ME2 and take effect there.

If anything you should buy them for their gameplay and now cheaper prices. Not story.

Yes, Infamous 1, Uncharted 1, Mass Effect 1 and all those are great games first of all and connect to the upcoming games.

ME for sure. It's a steal at its current prices. inFamous didn't do it for me, so I'm not sure.

I played all three games...

75 hours on ME (PC), Platinum on both Infamous and Uncharted Drake's Fortune... gues I can comment on them, and I do agree that InFamous would be the least important there (It all falls to personal tastes in the end though).

  • ME is a impressive game, and even though I'm on my fourth run, there is always some little piece of history that I did not tackle before, or a mission that I overlooked...
  • Uncharted is a great game, with stunning graphics and a likable history. The controls are responsive, and the action is quite good. Sadly, after the first run, it does get kinda boring (Playing on crushing difficulty made it for some fun in the combat...).
  • Infamous. I really like this game, but it's developers commited a great sin on it... repetitive side quests (The good and evil quests have some flair of uniqueness, but all the rest falls into boredom quickly). Having extra power to charge your powers is always good... but it comes by collecting "Blast Shards", and I pitty you if you intend to collect them all (I did it... it was maddening).

We're not talking about how good the games are. Infamous's story is important to know Infamous 2's story. Uncharted 1 is not really that important in Uncharted 2.

What you do in Mass Effect keeps on cropping up time and time again in ME2. Sometimes it's small things (someone you met in the corridor) to big things (life or death decisions).

It's also a very good game.

I don't know about inFamous and Uncharted, but I would definitely buy and beat Mass Effect 1 and 2 before you play 3, because the story is very important in the game.

We're not talking about how good the games are. Infamous's story is important to know Infamous 2's story. Uncharted 1 is not really that important in Uncharted 2. mrmusicman247

Except for a history twist right at the end of the game, InFamous history could be wrapped in "Guy gets powers and have to decide to use them in a good or evil way". Cole's history with Zeke is kinda bland. I'm yet to see if decisions relating to Trish will translate in changes on InFamous 2.

Nathan's relation to Sully (A somewhat fatherly figure) on the other hand is something that is interestingly woven throughout both games. Elena's role in the first game, as a kind of love interest. It's well presented in a way that you can care for her well being...

Overall I still think that Uncharted topples InFamous in importance when it comes to know where the characters came from.

Edit: Some comments may seem generic, as they were meant bo be like that, in order not to spoil the games for those who haven't played them.

Infamous and Uncharted I would get because they are just simpliy great games and Mass Effect I don't know because I have never played it. But out the three if you want to keep up with the story you would need to get Infamous.

Mass Effect is the one that would have the biggest impact but I hated it. It wasn't until mass effect 2 that I started enjoying the series. Don't know if its any good but theres a bit at the beginning of ME2 on the PS3 that condenses the main bits of the story down and your choices in this get imported into ME2 (doubt it would bring up all of the side missions though) but this would save you having to play through it.

For my money uncharted is the best one to buy here because its the best game out of the three by a mile imo

ME1 is most important story-wise. But do yourself a favor and play both Uncharted games. InFamous is great too.

Well, I just started Mass Effect 2 yday or the day before, and I can say that out of all the game series' I've yet to play this is the one where playing the first is the most beneficial. There seem to be numerous references in dialogue to the events that transpired in the first, and I transferred the save file of my first character to the second making the experience that much richer.

As for Uncharted 2, well I played it at a friends house, pretty much the whole thing, and never really felt too lacking having not played the first, but it is important to realize this was at a friends house. Had I been playing it alone at home I am sure I would have been much more into the story and game itself.

Lastly Infamous, I haven't ever played Infamous so I can't comment on it's story, nor the importance having played it might have going into the second one.

Another good point would be why not get these games? They are all good and you get nearly all of them (Uncharted 2 being the possible exception) for steal prices. So while your playing through them the new entries in the series might come out, and then you can later buy the new entries at a possibly reduced price.

Mass Effect is a solid trilogy. You get the idea of what's happening in ME2 without the first but it makes certain events less meaningful and you'll have no idea what the hell the Reapers are or any other threat that you're facing. Some things are re-explained, others not so much. The characters, including your custom made Shepard, grow and expand through the series and it has heavy focus on characters and past relationships and what not.

Missing the first Uncharted isn't that big of a deal story wise. Sure, you won't immediately know who Sully or Elena are, but after a few words you get the idea. There's one reference Drake says in 2 that refers to 1, but outside of that there's really nothing to know. It's a really simple story. However, the first Uncharted is shamefully overlooked and is still worth experiencing. Especially since it's short, it's a good adventure.

Finally, inFamous 2 will probably fill you in on what Cole did in the first game but the last third of the first game is all story driven to what's going to happen next. It's hard to explain without giving spoilers, but the do blatantly set it up for a sequel and give a lot of importance on the characters and story.
