I've been considering getting a gaming laptop because I want a PC that I'd be able to game on. I move around quite frequently between my parents houses and soon I'll be attending a nearby university for which I will need a laptop anyway. The laptops I've been considering are the MSI GS65 stealth with a gtx 1070 and also the newer version of the gigabyte aero 15x. Should I get one of these or just get a desktop and put it at one of my parents houses and get a separate laptop for school or just get one of the above laptops?

I personally wouldn't get a laptop for gaming. You pay such a shitload of money to get the laptop format it isn't worth it unless you have no other option. With a desktop PC you can instead put that money towards making it a shitload more powerful than whatever laptop you're looking at. Maybe even get a Nintendo Switch to go along with it, so you don't get bored when you move away from the PC.

@ysgramor24: you should get both, laptops are terrible for gaming. and here in aus they tell you to take notes on papers as you learn faster and only use a computer for assignments. you don't even need a laptop really, mine only ended up being a distraction in class.

Laptops are usually designed for Note workers, Bloggers, and Artists.

I would state, if you're happy playing games at least ten years old? A Gaming Laptop is fine_

However anything more recent you need to be looking at a gaming rig to really take advantage of the platform. It is also a factor that many P.C. only games are horribly optimised so they really need the best specs possible. Then add that the modding scene is one of P.C.s biggest advantages and they also are poorly optimised for the majority.

Reason I dont like to play on laptop is that the screen is too close, and the picture quality is not that great either, even on better laptops.

And its kinda awkward to link laptop to HD telly with HDMI...

Buy/Build a gaming desktop. The laptop market isn't the best with components (always lacking in CPU performance compared to desktop counterpart), and you pay way to much for a gaming laptop. Also in a few years once it becomes outdated, you can't upgrade it like you could a desktop. I would recommend getting a gaming desktop and buy a cheap laptop for school.

Only get a laptop if you are you are going to make use of the portability. I have a GTX 1070 based laptop (Asus ROG Strix GL702VS) and it is good, but my main desktop PC is where I do most of my gaming.

If you can spend that much many, you should buy both. The laptop isn't friendly for gaming.

Unless you're being shipped to a warzone, the answer to that question is always no.

If you game in one room, and don't really find yourself want to game in another place - go for a desktop computer for the best performance.
