Go for it. I usually prefer to play games on the console it was made for. Even though my PS3 is BC for any Playstation game I will still play FFVII/VIII or whatever on the original PS.

That sucks that you were to young. You missed out on a lot of great games. I would get one if I was you. I still have mine from 1997 and it still works really well.

Do the games play differently between backwards compatibility and the real thing?

Not often. Some games, like MGS 3, the frame rate will fall and the cutscenes will start to look awkward. Otherwise, there are only nominal issues

I'll admit.

There is something Nostalgic about having the original PS.

It just had sooo many good games!

yeah, go for it, they go for quite cheap nowadays.

but a word of warning , I heard the early models are not very reliable, they break easily. but suposidly they have better sound quality.

if I were you, I would go for one of the later models, or better still, go for the slim PS1, which is the console I have. its worked perfectly for 9 years while other consoles I have broke down.

the slim PS1 has an external power supply though, but other then that its reliable and quiet, its cheap too,

nah dude ps1's are stupid the grey one is too big and it looks bad and the slimline costs more than its worth. if you have at least a ps2 already whats the point it plays all the same games and the controller is exactly the same.

If you really want them all, Playstations are certainly not expensive. Go for it.

Slimline? You mean the PS One (the tiny one)?

I feel like an idiot for selling it now, but I used to have a PSone (the small one) with the attachable LCD screen on it. I loved that thing as it was completely portable and the small screen actually made the games look crisper. If you have a chance to pick one up for cheap, I would say go for it.
