Should I return it, because I didn't get a new cover?

I bought Star Wars:The Force Unleashed Ultimate Sith Edition(for €30) yesterday in Smyths and the guy at the counter gave me a display case with the booklet and new game. I didn't notice it until I got home but when I did i noticed the case was cracked in the top-right corner.

I didn't open the seal so now I have a month to return it, should I?

If the game's fine and new then I don't see how a cracked case is such big deal. I wouldn't return it. Then again, my DS had a dead pixel outta the box but I never cared about replacing it and just run with it to this day, but that's a bigger issue.

Play it and if the game works fine you'll get over the case's issue. This is assuming you're not the collector type of gamer who puts emphasis on the packaging.

Return it! Not because the game is probably fine, not because the case is a little scuffed, but because stores such as gamestop should not be selling opened items as "new." I've known a few people that have had jobs at gamestop. One, the games within these display boxes are often times opened a few days earlier than release. Two, they store them in the same manner as the used games, flimsy paper cases stored in a drawer--hence they should be sold at the typical $5 off gamestop usually does for used games. Three, which is most important of all, is that the display game was in all likelyhood played by some of the employees, rendering the game "used." Now, it may remain in perfect condition, but I'd return it based on principle.

if it's being sold as brand new, expect perfection.. if its not in perfect condition (whether it's simply just a scratch on the case, or even just torn cellophane ect) wait till they get you another that is in 'perfect' condition.

and most importantly, never buy brand new games from stores that open them, only buy them factory sealed !

if you shop in highstreet stores like 'Game' 'Gamestation' ect.. always ask then to get you a sealed copy from the storeroom.

You just spent your hard earned cash on a game that has a defect. Even though its just the case I would return it because as others have stated, it needs to be in perfect condition. I am a collector, so I am indeed very picky.

I think some of you are missing the point. The game was bought new but when he got home he noticed a crack on the right corner of the case that was unnoticeable up until then. Meaning the case got banged up a bit during shipment but it's nothing to be alarmed over, happens to me all the time. If it was a really big crack he would've noticed it at the store when buying the game and (should've) replaced it then. Should he decide to return it he'll now have to go through the hassle of convincing the clerk that it's an issue disruptive to the enjoyment of the product, and that's not easy most of the time. I hope you have the receipt. I always check the packaging for ripped plastic or cracks before I hand my money to the clerk. I give in to damaged packaging only if it's the last copy of the game they have and I really want it.

Matter of fact is it's an opened product. The game store should reduce the price. Even stores like best buy offer discounts on opened items and like-new returned items. If people have a problem confronting the matter in regards to wanting a sealed copy, just mention that the game is a gift. Who are they to argue with you--you're always right, after all.

This. You spent the money on a new game and are entitled to it being in a new condition.

The game will be fine but you should still return it ( i would ) on principal alone. Id rather someone spit in my face than ask me to pay NEW price for essentially USED merchandise.

Return it only if you're going to keep it to add to your collection. If you're going to play it and maybe trade it in after you're done then don't worry about it.

Same here. I can handle slightly scuffed cases when buying owned, but new games should be great condition. And I'm a collector as well.
