I always wonder if we as a gaming generation will look to games in our later, frailer years. When you think about it, its probably the perfect fit for a low mobility lifesty|e

I mean, i cant picture my grandfather cursing into a mic while playing GoW, but something relaxing or thoughtful, like a well paced RPG or at least a puzzle game would really keep him entertained and help challenge his mind.
I can totally understand why this isnt the case for most older folks.... I mean they didnt grow up with anything like interactive electronic games, so its a bit too much of a change... But for us, FOR US, well...

Assuming you are still kicking in your late 70s, and assuming you have enough eyesight to watch tv, and little enough arthritis to manipulate a controller... Would you consider picking up a console again to entertain yourself? By then heck, the Wii will probably have evolved to entertain old geezers exclusively :o

I've been playing games since I was 8 or so, I'm now 38. I have no doubt I'll be playing them for as long as I'm able to hold the controller.

I just lol'd hard thinking about my grandpa swearing at little kids on GoW or Halo 3 or something.

But yeah, I think I will probably still be playing as long as I can.

Games already appeal to retired people. In fact Nintendo is aggressively going after the older market (e.g. Wii Fit Plus added on sections specifically aimed at the older exerciser).

Since the retired people of today find games attractive and they didn't grow up with them, it seems like a no brainer that the people who actually grew up with games will continue to enjoy them.

The difference being that when this generation gets old, they will be more likely to play the hardcore type games that they are familiar with. A 70 year old owning a 12 year old punk in a FPS is a really funny image. It probably doesn't happen too much today, but in 50 years, who knows, it may become the norm.

I think it depends on the person really! I intend to be playing whatever passes for video games when I'm elderly - the problem today is looking at old people now who dont know to operate or have been reluctant to use new technology like cell-phones, dvd or vcrs are reluctant because those things simply didnt exist when they were younger.

In the future elderly people will be people who grew up in the age of computers and cell phones and so there just isnt the gap that there is today.

well... It IS starting to happen...

I must admit that I am ever so slightly embarrased to get my arse handed to me in CSS by my dad, just so you know, im 27, ge is in mis mid 50's I doubt he will stop gaming before his arms falls off -.-

My Grandma really enjoy the DS Lite (altho it is usually those mind games for it, she does like games like mario and other lighthearted games) she is 76.

I do know that it is still in the few, and my family were always drawn to new things and gadgets, when we are old man, were gonna rock the retirementhome with our social console gaming, and mean streak lans :P

its not different then the tv really, the generation that was allready old when it came out, thought it was junk and that it would rot young peoples minds, and now every elderly has a tv, because they grew up with it.
