id say its still scary even by today standards. The standard has actually be lowered a ton with people actually feeling like RE and dead space are scary. If those games are scary then silent hill is sure to cause a heart attack.

I find even the first SH on the Playstation scary, and SH2 is way scarier then the first in my opinion. It has been probably 7-years since I last played SH2, but I don't see why it wouldn't be just as scary today as it was then.

Dead space is not scary, but keeps you tense all the time.

But yeah, I think SH may still be scary (even the first one) given that their scares were not based on cheap monsters jumping out of the nothing but for the situation, plus the fog and radio sounds... gotta love the first 3 SH games... (I even liked the idea of the fourth one).

Some parts of the game freaked me out. Only some parts were "scary" imo. Regardless an entertaining and character that most people care for.

Buy It. Play It. Love It.

:)

There is a perfectly delivered Degree of Discomfort in that game to this day, absolutely. The sense of dread the game can generate is substantial... As with anything, you need to be a willing participant in suspending your disbelief, but that's any game's job, if you think about it.

You need to play it in the dark, with headphones on... So many people miss the real spine-chills in the audio when playing a game like SH, and that imersion as well as isolation from your real space, is key to a successful scare. I play those games with my headphones, and stuff like "Dead Space" can, indeed, startle you, or make you worried about the path ahead, to an outright jump-out-of-the-seat with the audio alone, subharmonic circuit cranked to the max...

... Same with any Resident Evil game, going all the way back to the first one.

Music, ambience, it's far too integral in Horror gaming to be coming out of the tiny, poorly tuned, bottom of the line little speakers on-board your television (whether it be Action-Horror like RE has become, and "Dead Space", or old-school real-deal Survival Horror like RE started, "Siren" and "Silent Hill").

Wear Headphones!

:D

The isolation is truly unique. Though if accustomed to action games it may take awhile to get use to. I also need a walkthrough for a majority of the game (mostly the beginning) which made the game a little frustrating at first.

Silent Hill 2 isn't good because of how scary it is. Although you might find it pretty scary.

Not only does it stand the test of time it's one of the last actual horror games. Today there's no such thing, since you get a bunch of guns and things like auto checkpoints. In SH2 it's you with a chunk of wood and a clumsy handgun in a tight corridor

Almost all older horror games are still scarey especially in comparison to the sort of "horror" we have today which frankly isnt scarey.

Silent hill has a scary creepy atmosphere, Dead Space is more of a shocking game, than scary.

After all of this talk about SH2, I'm gonna pick up a copy today and play it again. It's been years. Should have never sold it, but you know how it is... Been meaning to re-add this game, SH3, and the like... The HD remake will be cool, but I like to own originals of the games that changed my gaming experience. SH2 is definitely one of those games.

By the standards being set today for 'scary' games, it more than stands the test of time.

I like legacy games on legacy hardware. It's weird, I know. But I genuinely like to have copies of certain games that way...

... The "Silent Hill" games are some of those, where I want the box, the art, the whole nine. Some of those games are bizzarro games like "REEL Fishing" or "Flipnic!", or "Mr. Mosquito"... But being a collector and keeper of "different" horror games like "Echo Night Beyond", "Martian Gothic", and most-especially, "Lifeline"...

... Honk if you actually own a copy of "Lifeline". yo...
