Which do you like better? Homecoming or Downpour? I think those are the only two available on the Marketplace so those are my choices.

Thank you but I was wondering which game SH fans prefer, Homecoming or Downpour? I can only get one, and those are the two available on the Marketplace.

I haven't played Downpour, but Homecoming was okay. Definitely not the best in the series, and unless you're getting it for cheap, it's not really worth picking up. The best SH games were 2 & 3, hands down.

I'm not sure what you mean that you can only pick 2 from the "marketplace"? What marketplace?

Downpour. Homecoming was ok but it barely felt like a SH game. Downpour had a really shitty intro, but once you get into the main town it started to feel like a real SH game. Homecoming had a decent storyline, but the gameplay felt too action heavy.

I have only a yes homecoming, nit played downpur yet, although I will soon.

I liked homecoming decent story, pretty scary with headphones on in the dark.

Combat is really clunky but playable, combat being clunky forgivable in silent hill because it makes you avoid enemy encounters

@k41m: the HD collection I have has some FPS problems at certain points the originals didnt have. The Ps3 version could be different though.

The graphics did look nice though

If you can, play the originals. The HD remake has all kinds of technical issues and they replaced the original voice actors in one of the games.

Downpour if you ask me.Good story, good characters , a good twist in the story , though not a decent ending.The gameplay has improved a lot over homecoming , though still need to do better.

For the first time in the series there are side quests in the game too , some of which are real interesting.And the graphics have made huge jump releative to homecoming ; camera angles and the use of the flashlight will certainly remind you of Last of Us.I'm considering to replay in summer ,as I got nothing else to do with my time.

Also the piano solo on the main menu, as the drops of rain hit the surface of a pond, is just amazing!

Well the opinions seem to be split, not sure what to do lol.

And why the hell would they replace VA's in 2 or 3?

Was thinking about downloading the HD collection until I read how terrible it was.

If they ever release vanilla SH 1 and 2 on current or next gen consoles, I'll definitely get them.

In my opinion, Downpour.

While similar to Homecoming in therms of gameplay, it had more of the symbolism and thought out Silent Hill presentation that suited the character. Wish they would've gone full out bizzare and freaky like the older games however.

Both are shit. Really, don't get either one. Homecoming is combat heavy (and the most powerful weapon in the game is the very first one you get - a knife. It attacks so fast enemies just get stunlocked to death), completely unscary, has a terrible story, and terrible graphics.

Downpour is somehow even less scary than Homecoming thanks to absolutely pathetic monster design. It's still combat heavy despite having shit combat. The story contradicts itself constantly and is pretty terrible written. The graphics are total garbage as well.

Neither one feels even remotely like a Silent Hill game.

Downpour is better overall. The only weakness is the enemy design, but the rest is really good.

Homecoming was better. Silent Hill Downpour had all the right ideas, but that save system hurt the open world concept. Also, technically speaking, Downpour combat just never felt quite right. Downpour was clunky,

Although, both games "multiple endings" were terrible.

If you're new to the Silent Hill series I honestly can't suggest either of them. The series lost It's way when Konami started getting American developers to make the SH games. SH 2 & 3 are the quintessential games in the series. Even with It's technical issues, I would take the HD collection over Homecoming or Downpour.

As a few others have said I cannot recommend either. The first three are the good ones with four being tolerable but not really silent hill. And also as others have said avoid the HD collection. Your better off with no silent hill then those choices.

@mattykovax: I've gotta say that I don't get the hate surrounding HD Collection. I could tell it was a lazy port, but from someone who hadn't played either of the games before HD Collection came along, I thought it was a good way to play them.

@turtlethetaffer:

There are some gameplay bugs but that's not the big issue. the HD collection removed the fog filter, which is part of the whole point of silent hills atmosphere, plus the game actually looks worse than the originals, and when a ps2 game looks better than the next gen HD optimized version, you know somethings wrong. There were some missing code issues from what I understand.

I guess if they are truly the only version you can have a chance to play go for it, the games should be experienced, but if you have the choice the original versions are the way to go.

@turtlethetaffer:

I looked it up and there is fog now and a few other fixes, after the second patch because the day one patch did not fix it. I also confirmed what I said, that most of the technical issues stem from the fact that it was made from unfinished unfinished source code from the original games.

@mattykovax: The only real issues I had was that James's breathing sounds weird as hell (after running) and the audio in Silent Hill 3 sometimes cacks up when I use the SMG. That, and some areas have a really weird filter over them... The best way to describe it is to say that it's like you're looking through a moving window at the game. Kinda weird but I really didn't mind most of those. Mind you, this is on an offline 360, so I haven't gotten any patches.
