Damn Resident Evil, that game has nothing compared to Silent Hill in terms of atmosphere. RE relies heavily on 'BOO' style scares and thats not actually scary, it just shocks you. Silent Hill is full of atmosphere and litreture and everything! SILENT HILL needs more recognition IMO. What do you think?

i think that alot of people arnt patient enough for silent hill, that and, the best one was 2, so its been going down a pretty steep hill from there. i enjoyed the games, but i know toward the end of the series, it was gettin harder and harder for me to finish the games, and not because they were hard, but because i got bored with them because they keep doing the same thing.

Underrated compared to Resident Evil maybe (a series which I don't even think is all that good for the most part), but still pretty popular overall. Fatal Frame and Siren get much less appreciation than Silent Hill does.

Agreed. later on they lost their appeal because they werent made by team 'silent'

I agree. The Fatal Frame series is one of my all-time favorites and is extremely creepy, and even scary at quite a few points. Another excellent, but underrated series is the Clocktower series. Silent Hill is a good series, but it's been steadily going downhill, sadly, just as Resident Evil has. They've lost what made the originals amazing games. In fact, the new Resident Evil games I don't even consider in the same genre as the originals.

If you're in the US. You can buy the whole PS2 set, sealed over at gamequestdirect for a $100. Isn't cheap...but they have them sealed. Although the Xbox version is probably the better version, being that it has more content. But they only carry FaFrII for the Xbox...

Looks like Gamestop.com has a used copy of Siren for 5 bucks. Although, in what condition is going to be a complete gamble on your part. Probably be better if you just went to a local one, so you can see what condition the game is in.

It isn't the most underrated but still deserves more than it gets, especially the first 3.

Underated? It's one of the more famous Horror genre series that's out there.

Yes, when it's compared to RE. Silent Hill is very unique in its own way. Another great horror game I found was Haunting Ground.

i just finished 2 and was very impressed (although areas are showing age), and keeps up the most unnerving atmosphere for the whole game. although i hear bad things about homecoming (in the sense that its a bad game).

I'm pretty sure Silent Hill has a big fanbase, it's not that underrated.

Yeah, after 3 the rest werent made by Team Silent and the silent hill series are unlikely to be as good ever again. Unless you play Origins on Wii which is a remake

Silent Hill for PlayStation was really scary when I played it, I used to have a friend who loved a block away and we traded games a lot. He gave me the game but it was so scary for me that I never got too far in it. From playing some of it with an emulator that I found I would have to say that the game is really great compared to the first Resident Evil, but once Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 4 came out Silent Hill will never recover. (Also was not to well pleased with the stupid piano puzzle in the school which was hard as hell to solve without a guide)

the first silent hill is an extraordinary game complete of fear and desolation, silent hill 2 at the opposite is dull, slow and predictable

What? No way! I can't agree with a single thing you just said.

I can't talk to a five year old about survival horror games without them mentioning Silent Hill. I can't throw a stone without hitting someone who hasn't orgasmed over this series at one time or another. Silent Hill isn't underrated. Not even compared to Resident Evil is it underrated. The mere fact that they're so often compared is evidence that they're on par when it comes to fan base.

Also, Resident Evil was not about shock fights. Yeah there were some jumpy moments but the same is true of all works of horror. Every one of them likes to go for at least one cheap boo eventually. Resident Evil may not have been as atmospheric as Silent Hill but there's more to horror than just that. Resident Evil did have atmosphere but it got your heart racing in another way.

Resident Evil (at least until 4 when they did everything they could to stab themselves in the heart and burn everything they'd built up to in the past) was at it's most intense with the monsters. Not because they were scary looking or because they jump out at you but because of everything you know about them. You know they're strong, you know they're fast and you know there's been so many of them that you've tried to fight that right now it's you, a narrow corridor, a hunter and three shots left in your pistol. You're screwed.

Both Silent Hill and Resident Evil are the most popular survival horror franchises out there (or at least they were until Resident Evil decided it was too cool for horror and became an action series) and they're frightening in different ways. Now, as for underrated? Yeah. I'm going to go with Fatal Frame. I at least saw copies of the Siren games available (even managed to get the PS3 reimagining). Fatal Frame? I knew about it but never saw it for sale.

of course i'm serious, i managed to end both but silent hill is terrific and re-playable, while silent hill 2 (somevery stupid puzzles) is obscene and doesn't deserve any further consideration, i sold it and i don't complain, i try to convince you the game original is just that matters

Oh, I forgot to mention that Resident Evil is making more as an Action game then it did as a Horror game so you will not be seeing another pre-set camera game from them.

Fatal Frame is the most underrated horror series. Silent Hill doesn't seem to be loved as much as RE, but it's still a great series (up until #4).

Pretty much the entire Silent Hill fanbase disagrees with you >_>. Silent Hill 2 is probably the most widely loved game in the series.

well that is just my opinion about, sincerely in my humble point of view i found it repetitive, i talk about its playability, story apart. I believed this game was really good until i put my hands over silent hill original, i think no kind of improvement came given to it but i feel original playability better not stiff like sequel was, aboveall combat in silent hill 2 is horrible when you at the beginning can just use that rusted iron, i found repetitive crushing those enemies, atmosphere is good but original is better you remember school' phone call, genius! and i don't mind about two parallel worlds, reality and the other world alternate switching with huge mastery. that thing in silent hill 2 is less convincing. in other words i found game less inspired than original in great portions.

I started the first one at a friends house and enjoyed it a lot. Unfortunately I havn't been there since lol so I need to borrow it because even with those Ps1 graphics the atmosphere was still pretty creepy.

Couldn't agree with you more mate! Silent Hill left me feeling really disturbed and it took me about an hour to feel "normal" again after extended plays because the tension was so relentless. Silent Hill 2 was definitely a better looking game and I did like many aspects of it, but for me the original wins out.

As for "Pretty much the entire Silent Hill fanbase disagrees with you >_>. Silent Hill 2 is probably the most widely loved game in the series" that might explain why people moaned about my review of it on the site :D
