I recently got Silent Hill 2 and before i play it (as it being the first full Silent Hill game i've played excluding playing bits of some at friends houses) do they link?
I mean, can i just go straight into 2 without me not of playing 1, and do they link storywise?
Thanks :D

Silent Hill 2 is independent from all other Silent Hill games, so the story does not connect to any of the others apart from the obvious (it's set in Silent Hill). Silent Hill 1 and 3 are connected though. And most of Silent Hill 4 is not actually set in Silent Hill. Sil;ent Hill 4 was weird... I didn't like it.

you really should start at 1 to get familiar with the setup. 4 is almost a skip. it wasnt even originally a silent hill game but if its cheap enough get it.

As far as I understand it, they are part of the same universe, but they don't depend upon the others in the series.

Yeah, two is independent. The pnly thing other than the setting,is because its independent and has nothing to do with the events of 1 and 3,it helps give a little more insight into the nature of what the town really is.

You don't have to play 1 to understand 2, it's a great game so enjoy.

Fully independent stories. I played SH2 before I played the rest of them and even after the Resident Evil games - Fallout 3 and Oblivion:

Silent Hill 2 is still still my favourite - IMO the multiple endings give it additional replayabiity above and beyond the great fun there already is to this game.

just to be clear - each Silent Hill game up to and including the new Silent Hill:Homecoming is a separate story from all the other other games and they do not have to played in any order to be enjoyed.

The series can be played in any order. I played the series completely out of order and still enjoyed the hell out of each of the game's stories. Silent Hill 3 does link to 1 but it's still not that important to have played 1 first. Silent Hill 2 however, is completely independent other than the fact that's it's set in the same town. SH2 was definitely my favourite game in the series. It's plot is easily the best, one of the best game storylines of all time IMO.
