I'm usually one of those people that always relish in a game when it's longer. RPG's are typically long, but there are few times I can think of a game being too long.

However, I've been playing Kingdoms of Amalur for well over a month now, and can't be bothered to finish it. It's a really fun game and I'm enjoying it, but the map is so big that if you want to finish all quests and explore the world it will take me seemingly forever.

So yeah, I think Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning is too long, and would benefit being shorter.

Maybe so, but the exploration is most times optional, so I'd rather they have a huge world that is there for those who want to explore it. You can always burn through the story quests if you are going for completion.

I've play kingdoms of Amalur. It is fun but its not fun enough for it to be a long as it is. The story and characters are weak and the combat get stale and repetitive after a while. The problem isn't it being to long but it being too simple and not interesting enough.

I enjoyed Darksiders, but felt Darksiders II was too long.  I liked the first one much more.

GTA games. Not because they're bad, but because somewhere in the middle the main campaign gets all disjointed and you'll ask yourself "how did it get to this point?".

I agree that the GTA campaigns are way too long. I'd say less than 30% of the missions are related to the central storyline, with the overwhelming majority of the missions being sidequests.

San Andreas was a bit frustrating cause I wanted nothing more than to kill Ryder, Tenpenny, and Big Smoke but the game forced you through endless quests before you can do so. It's extremely fragmented.

FF7 is an example of a game that was long and epic, but always kept its eye on the ball. The main storyline was always the focus of the game. Even during sidequests, it still contributed.

Definitely GTA. GTA 4 was 92 fvcking main missions long, and thats not even counting all the shitty side missions that are exactly the same as the main ones. And people still complain saying that GTA games need to be LONGER.... what the hell is wrong with people who say that? Ugggg

-Darksiders II was a great game but it did seem to drag out a bit much towards the end

-I also remember Uncharted 2 being quite a slog. I think it was the slow pace it stayed at that made it feel like it outstayed its welcome early on.

-Assassin's Creed II's repetitiveness caused it to feel too long

I felt Dead Space 3 outstayed its welcome. Took me almost 18 hours. I'd definitely say Far Cry 2. It's a great game, but I never have the incentive to play through the story missions.

Red Dead Redemption comes to mind. It's not even the game is too long but the broken promises from quest givers starts to run it's course after a while. Epic game otherwise but all the annoying run around quest givers dish out about giving you the exact whereabouts of Bill Williamson and Javierstarts to where a little thin midway through Mexico.

Then when you finally make it back to Blackwater, you get more broken promises about reuniting with your family. More bounty hunter bullshit about finding Dutch who was barely mentioned throughout the game. Granted most of the later missions are pretty good, the broken promises gets old after a while. John's sarcastic remarks and entertaining dialog helps alliviate the constant running around though.

It still gets rather ridiculous when you think about it. San Andreas, for instance, is about a small-time gangster looking to reclaim his neighborhood from rival thugs and find out who murdered his mom. Halfway into the game, and he's driving a monster truck through a course in the desert to appease a government agent who eventually makes him break into a top-secret facility and steal a jetpack. The story practically bends over backwards to justify all the content Rockstar puts in each game.

I am sixty seven hours into Project X Zone and I still have three levels to go  That strikes me as a bit too long. It seems to be a common complaint about the game too.

I've never felt a game to be too long. If that happened, I obviously wouldn't be enjoying the game. Most single player stories aren't that long anyway. Even with open world games that you can spend 100+ hours in, the story itself usually isn't that lengthy. But I've just never thought to myself "Man, this game is TOO long". I've wanted some games to be over with, though not because of their length, but because I wasn't liking it a whole lot.

I think there are probably a lot of JRPG's out there that have overly long battle sections with nothing to break them up (making the games feel grindy even though you aren't technically grinding). I had this problem with Rogue Galaxy on the PS2. It wasn't even that the game was long but that it was lazily bloated (leveling up characters and weapons took too long, floors and floors of copy-and-pasted areas for dungeons etc) that made it so unbearable. It was a 50 hour game that honestly only had enough content to fill a 30 hour game at best.

I've always disliked boss fights in RPG's that give the enemies huge amounts of hp just to make the fight 'difficult'...that's not difficult, it's stupid

I literally flashed my way through Amalur just to say I beat it. I would still listen to plot critical conversations, but ignore all the rest. It was fairly comical at times: "Please warrior, my daughter has been kidnap....." I'd just run past. "Help us, adventurer, our village is about to be destr...." swoosh and I'm gone. A horde of enemies in the way? Just quaff a potion of stamina and run past them.off to the next main quest marker.

That sort of mystical brightly colored WoWesque high fantasy simply does nothing for me.

For some reason the 2008 Prince of Persia took me forever. Like 20 hours for what I felt should have been a 10 hour game. It got quite repetitive also. Still a good game though. I have Alice:Madness Returns on my PS3 HDD from a PSN sale a month ago but I have not started it yet as I have heard it drags on and on and should have been about half the length it was. I am waiting to play that one for awhile.

There are no games that I think of that are too long apart from one, the longer the better imo, I can think of many that are too short such as Metal Gear Solid 4. The game that is too long is Mass Effect 2 as the gameplay and level design is far to repetitive for even a 2 hour game let alone a 30 hour game.

20 hours for PP08!? You sure you didn't leave the game on or something? Took me less than 12 hours on the first playthrough. If you press triangle I believe that shows you where to go next.

Many jrpgs can be a bit too long in my opinion. I'd actually like it if most jrpgs were about maybe 20%~ shorter. I tend to become rather burned out towards the end and it's not unusual for me to just end up watching the end on Youtube instead of spending four hours to go through that very final dungeon...

I usually enjoy any single player campaign, regardless of its length. But the one that comes to mind that I literally had to force myself to finish would be that Alice in wonderland game. I think it's called Alice Madness Returns. That game was agonizingly painful to play all the way through.

Edit (added on, corrected spelling): Oh, and bulletstorm! What was it about that game? It was like, the entire second half of the game constantly had you thinking it would end. But it just kept going, and going, and going... And going.... And going...
And going........

Very frustrating, to say the least.

Since the majority of single player campaigns nowadays tend to last between 6-8 hours if you don't slowly explore every nook and cranny of ever part of each level, I have found appriciation for those games that I would previously consider too long. So as of now, none are too long as far as I'm concerned.

Its even worse when a game isn't an RPG and still does the mega health thing. Number one offender, Bioshock Infinite ! Mr. Levine has some explain'n to do !

Can't think of any that are really too long.  Some may start to feel long, but that is usually the fault of bad game design or a bad story.  But that does not mean I expect a shorter game for my money; it just means I will give it a lower review.  I want longer games, and I want the gamemakers to fill the game with smarter design choices.  Simple as that.  Enough with the CoD short SP game trend that pretty much started it all with most other games.

I'd like to add a few in here, if I may. Oblivion. While it may not have been quite as long as skyrim, it was much longer than I expected it to be after trying to do all the side quests. It got pretty repetitive after level 30 or so, and kept going downhill from there. Never finished it. Far cry 3. The story missions were the perfect length. But when I went back to take over the bases, do the side missions, make all the gear, find all the relics, complete the side challenges, locate all the towers, find all the charts, explore all the nooks and crannies and unlock all the guns, that game became massive. Never completely finished it either.

Alice MR is a great game.It is pretty long,I think the reason people say it drags is because the stages are very long, but there are only five proper ones and a final shorter section.I think it took me about 12-15 hours.

maybe it's just because I like JRPGs so much but I rarely have that problem...I'm rather the opposite really. I feel like most games are too short, especially if they are under 25 hours
