Haven't played Skyrim in a very long time, but the game is still addictive as ever when you start playing again. Began a new game last night. It's still a great game. Attempted to have the same level of fun/longing to play w/ Fallout 4, but it just doesn't do it for me. It's lacking something. Maybe less of the rpg/adventure feeling?

Anyhow - let me know which you one think is better. I'm Skyrim all the way.

Skyrim is better by a long shot, then again The Elder Scrolls tend to be higher quality than Bethesda Fallout as well.

Skyrim is a very good game but it does suffer from dumbed-down mechanics and lack of a build. It's why I put Oblivion and Morrowind over Skyrim. Skyrim has some of the best dungeons in the series and openworld is cool. Doesn't do much else exceedingly well, and that's why I would personally not bother going back.

The Elder Scrolls became a dumb sandbox game, for people who want a dumb sandbox game.

For me, I enjoyed them almost exactly the same. I'm more of a Fallout fan so I'd say I probably overlooked Fallout 4's faults more so than Skyrim. But in both cases I had a lot of fun overall and spent nearly an equal time on then (about 200 hours each). Still, can't see myself starting a new game in either case and enjoying it the same. I tried starting up Skyrim again, first on the PS3 only to find that I didn't want to do all the level grinding all over again. Then I tried PC with some mods but I just didn't really feel any incentive to spend time with it again. I might give Fallout 4 another go one day, but it'll likely be the case that I'll start and won't get very far.

Even as a Fallout fan I would unhesitatingly say Skyrim is better than Fallout 4. Fallout 4 is a good shooter and I have fun with it but it is a piss poor RPG and a disappointing Fallout.

@RSM-HQ:

Completely agree with you. I always found the Elder Scrolls series more appealing than the Fallout series. But like you say, the more recent installments to the franchise seem to be lacking in certain aspects compared to their predecessors. Regardless, I'm still excited for the new Elder Scrolls game and look forward to seeing how the latest installment holds up against classics like Morrowind and Oblivion.

I'd say Skyrim is to TES as FO4 is to Fallout

They are both extremely watered-down accessible versions of a niche genre.

Both are extremely fun and can be a platform for endless modding.... Honestly I couldn't tell you which I like better. It might be FO4 as I really liked the settlement system. I wouldn't consider either to be a good representation of what made the original games fun.

Hmm... I didn't see my post going that way......

Edit: Okay okay.... I think Skyrim is better than FO4, in an unmodded, vanilla state

Edit2: Ugh they're both really bad, unmodded

Edit3: I have around 400 hours in both... I have no idea which I like better

Find it tough to support Bethesda as a developer with what they offered last time (FO76), while joking about customer feedback. They really need to win back customer trust.

Think they're been digging a grave/ getting far too arrogant after Skyrims success.

I'd pick Skyrim over Fallout 4 any day. It's what made me fall in love with open world games. Every day when I got home it'd be like a whole new adventure. I never knew what would happen. I've probably got over 300 hours in that game and I will definitely return. Fallout 4 I have maybe 5-10 hours and I doubt I'll play it again unless I'm really bored. I probably should've given it more of a chance

Definitely Skyrim. Its world was much more interesting to explore and lose myself into. I also had a great time with Fallout 4 but it felt bland compared to previous games by Bethesda.

Skyrim is way better, hands down. Objectively speaking it's just a better game; better world, better story, better quests, better open-ended nature. Just better mechanically.

If you like Fallout 4 better, that's fine, but it's probably more because you prefer the post-apocolyptic setting and lore of the Fallout franchise to the fantasy setting of The Elder Scrolls, and would probably prefer Fallout 99 out of 100 of the times.

With that said, I did enjoy FO4 a lot, it just is not nearly as good as FO: New Vegas and even Fallout 3.

Yeah, this. I've been playing Fallout since the first game, and Bethesda just phoned it in on Fallout 4. I won't go so far as to say it's a bad game (as I said above, I had fun with it), but as a Fallout game it felt very shallow.

Neither game is all that good.

Skyrim probably has a better astmosphere and f4 probably has better combat, but both feel rather soulless.

You get swords in Fallout last I checked.

Most my time with FO3 was slapping people with Vampire's Edge because shooting in FO3 was not that fun.

Are you shocked a game made four years later looks better?

Skyrim. I just started my 5th character last weekend. I'm trying to make this one my ultimate play through. Going for 100%. I 'm still on my first play through of FO4.

Fallout 4 wasn't as fun as the previous Fallout games.

Skyrim is more fun than the previous TES games.

you can look at the mod community and see which is preferred. Skyrim still sees new mods at about the same clip as FO4 despite being older and the quality is night and day. I can barely find a good pair of shoes in Fallout 4. Although, I will say there are a handful of people making fantastic gun mods for FO4...I remember playing Fallout 76 and thinking "where are all the good guns," until I remembered all the good guns are from mods.

I actually find FO4's gameplay a little bit more fun because of the good gun mod support, coupled with true darkness effects and working night/thermal vision with toggle functionality and that cool little whir when you active the headset, splinter cell style. But there's just so much less to do in Fallout 4 thanks to the devs relying almost entirely on radiant quests rather than filling their game world up with side stories and one-off dungeon areas like in Skyrim.
