The MegaMan X series on the SNES is brilliant.
Earthbound, Secret of Mana and illusion of gaia(in the states) are all excellent and fun games; not to mention very unique.
If you like brawlers, Turtles in Time is a must have.
Of course, you've got some classic games that you may have missed like Super Mario Kart and F-Zero which are incredible racers and Star Fox
If you like your games tough as nails and super manly too, then check out Contra 3 Alien Wars. Perhaps the definitive contra(next to contra 4 :D).
Unique in what ways? Turn-based RPGs bore me very quickly if they're not significantly different. And I can't stand RPGs with random battles. It makes getting from point A to point B a total chore. A very frustrating chore. The MegaMan X series on the SNES is brilliant.

Earthbound, Final Fantasy VI, and if you're into brawlers, check out either of the Battletoads games, they are both awesome.
All of those games are pretty much essential for any SNES gamer.

Earthbound was turn based, but it was unique in its style, humour and charm(as well as its setting). Though, not entirly unique given that Earthbound is actually Mother 2, a sequal to a similar NES game. Either way, it's not something we've seen alot of. I should also add that you do not experience random battles. You see your enemies on screen, and unless you're a high level, they will charge you. Depending on what direction you, or they, are facing upon encountering one another will determine who strikes first. Also, if you are a high level, enemies instantly die.. so you don't have to worry about going through the whole combat jazz against a rat.
Illusion of gaia was not turn based at all. It was entirly active combat. In fact, if i remember correctly it sort of combined the rpg like storytelling/scope were you would travel through "dungeons" and combat in a way that was more reminicenst of action games.
As for Secret of Mana. Again, this is active combat. However, you also have a small party and can pause the game to issue some orders. So, no random battles here. You see the enemies onscreen, you can run past or face them.
i actually thought the game "hook" based off of peter pan was really fun. you start off with just a dagger and as the game goes on you get the ability to fly and you get a short sword. there were lots of hidden powerups and extra lives.
and we mustn't forget actraiser or actraiser 2 both excellent games. the first was a mix or action with an almost sim/town building concept, your little minions would go excavating while making a town and might find spells and extra lives and things like that, then they'd find a demon and you'd go down to the planet and battle through a level to fight the demon. the second one removed the town building concept and just gave you an overworld starting with a couple levels, once you beat some of those then new levels opened up that you could fly to and so on and so on. both fun games!
also, since no one mentioned it, killer instinct, incredibly addictive if you like fighting games with in depth combo systems.

What about the length of said games? Thing is, even if I'm enjoying the game quite a bit, RPGs tend to be too long to hold my attention for too long.Ha, sorry, I forgot to mention I own that as well. =] I'm actually not that big of a fan of the 2D metroid series. I was introduced to the series through Prime. Before Prime, I didn't even know what a Metroid was. I'm sure I could have enjoyed the 2D games a lot more if I had started on them, but, neh, I think I'll stick to the 3D series. The one game that immediately comes to mind is, of course, the best game for the system, and which, mind-bogglingly, no one has mentioned yet. SUPER METROID.
lambonius
super metroid was a freaking excellent game.
also if you like star wars, the snes games were actually really good. they were difficult but not exceedingly so (they might frustrate a little in the beginning but once you get used to them they're really fun)
also, UN Squadron was a great game (side scroller shooter where you can pick your levels and you have several pilots to choose from) also super r-type, gradius 3 are real good too
and again, missed before but Super Castlevania 4

crono trigger, f-zero, super mario world, too many imo. snes is my #2 fav console ever.
What are some good SNES games? Like good games, but ones I've probably never played. I had a SNES when I was younger but we didn't have too many games for it, and the games we did have weren't exactly AAA games... And as much as I like to eat Cheetos as a toddler, the Chester Cheatah gamers really weren't good games. So, just to be sure, the games I've played on the SNES that are actually good are: Super Mario World, Crono Trigger, ALttP, Super Mario RPG and Megaman 7. Any other suggestions are welcome =]Jim_bo_bo
